Editorial Reviews

Product Description

With the mere first notes of the introduction, fans of Grave Digger will unequivocally know they have returned to the Scottish Highlands! The majestic sound of bagpipes stylistically establishes the direction of the German power metal institution's latest album. "The Clans Will Rise Again" is a formidable and compact work, in which no one song outdoes another. It also allows them to once again return to the glory days of their "Tunes of War" album. "The Clans Will Rise Again" presents a band that has managed to mark their 30th anniversary with yet another musical milestone.

I was really excited about getting this new release. Now, I can say after listening to it several times...it's not their best work! I do believe they are missing Manni on the axe. He had a raw-ness about his playing. The sound he made in the last 10 years was very raw! Its not a bad release, but I was expecting more of the Hangman sound. Excalibur, Hangman, Grave Digger, and Knights of the Cross are without a doubt great Power-Metal from GD. I'm hoping they'll tour the USA again in the future.
I hope this helps your buying needs of Grave Digger.

I've long been a fan of Grave Digger, albeit to a lesser extent than most. I thought Excalibur was really the only album they ever made that I thought was good from start to finish, and when Rheingold came out, I was one of only a few people who thought that it wasn't exactly great. But no matter what, Grave Digger always had a few good songs on every album, and this one is no different. There are a lot more good songs on this one than on your average GD release, though.

How good is an album when even the intro gets you going? So many bands use this as a throwaway track, but here, it's actually important, and it leads in beautifully to "Paid in Blood" which is one of the best songs on here. The title track has one of the most unique Digger solos I've heard yet, and "Hammer of the Scots" has your typical chant along chorus that will make it a fan favorite. I think "Rebels" is my favorite so far, but there are a lot of good tracks on this one to consider with it.

My biggest complaint about Digger has always been that so many songs they write are just too repetitive. Remember "Giants" from Rheingold, where the singer has about 2 verses and then just yells "Giiiiiiiiiiiiiaants!" for like 7 minutes? I hated that song, and thankfully, few songs here border or too repetitive, though the aforementioned "Hammer of the Scots" comes darn close. Each song has it's own personality as well, and the instrumentation and rhythm guitar is done with impeccable talent.

Overall, a solid release, and I'm glad I gave this one a chance. It's probably my second favorite GD album, and that's a pretty good comeback for a band that I had basically written off a few years ago. Get it, especially if you're a fan of this band.

I remember a few years back when Grave Digger put out 'The Last Supper' & I thought "what the ??" Don't get me wrong there was some cool tracks on that album & Grave Digger was obviously trying to expand it's sound (and I do like it when bands experiment sometimes because they can get better) but in their case it didn't seem to work. Since then they went back to the formula that truly worked for them the last 3 albums & I know I couldn't be happier!! 'The Clans Will Rise Again' sounds a lot like 'Ballads of a Hangman' which to me was Grave Digger's best since 2003's 'Rheingold' so if you like that album then you will feel just as good about this one! Once again Grave Digger proves why the best power metal comes from Europe!!

I love the intro to this album. all the good power metal bands have awesome intros on their albums. vocalist Chris Boltendahl has a striking resemblance to Lemmy Kilminster of Motorhead. song no. 3, entitled "Hammer of the Scots" starts out soft and then the energy hits you. I love the solos on this album, and the bagpipes also make an excellent touch to the album. I love the vocals, guitar, bass, keyboard, and drum arrangement, and on this album all instruments work together instead of against each other. song no. 5, entitled "The Clans Will Rise Again", is sort of a power ballad, which is something you would normally hear with hard rock and glam metal bands. Grave Digger has been around the metal map. it is a good thing that they signed to Napalm Records. I recommend this album to metal fans that love a variety of genres.
