One of the main claims about this book, as contained in its publicity blurb, caught the eye of this reviewer that sort of set the tone for the whole book. "Integrating good foods into your lives".

The author, in his introduction, describes this book's raison d'être perfectly: "I've discovered one key to improving my clients' well-being and enabling them to eat healthier and feel better. It's not a miracle diet, or a superfood or a scientific breakthrough. It's simply this: practical advice. As a culture, we tend to be obsessed with what we should eat, but we rarely stop and look practically at how we eat."

Certainly there is a whole panoply of advice out there, often contradicting each other in the process, pushed by various vested interests all claiming to be the "one true saviour" to our problems. Of course, if you want to live on a diet of nuts and not eat the flesh of animals that is up to you, but can you necessarily state that X, Y or Z are totally evil and should be avoided? Fortunately this book, at least, treats the reader as an adult and lets the reader and their conscience reach their own conclusions. The book sets out a general theme or programme, gives advice of possible recipes that could help and leaves you to fill in the blanks and implement a working programme. Advice without hectoring, and that is appreciated.

Unlike many introductions, the fairly lengthy one in this book IS worth a read and you do get to understand what the author means by "Clean Eating". In the author's own words "Clean Eating is ... eating that's good for your health, good for the planet and good tasting. In other words: healthy, sustainable, and delicious".

This cookbook is a fantastic resource in getting you started on a path of cleaner, healthier living. It is half informative lifestyle tips for how to feel your best and why you will feel your best and half interesting and healthy recipes to get you started. After being inundated with new health information on a daily basis about what you should or shouldn't eat, The Clean Plates Cookbook is a refreshingly holistic look at all the aspects of diet and lifestyle that will leave YOU feeling your best since a cleaner lifestyle is not a one size fits all solution. It is thoughtful in the information included and incredibly easy to read and implement. In addition to the cookbook, Clean Plates has a daily e-newsletter and a wonderful site which ties into helping you stay on track and discover new recipes/restaurants/tips on a regular basis. Highly recommended for every conscientious foodie out there or anyone looking for a simply healthy and delicious new start to the new year!

Clean Plates is such a fantastic resource! I subscribe to their weekly emails with healthy tips & restaurant recommendations, and I've never been happier or healthier. When I caught wind of the cookbook I had to order it immediately. Jared's philosophy is laid-back and practical: eat what's right for your body and feed yourself simple, seasonal, and organic ingredients. Each recipe contains informative explanations, so it's almost as if I am taking a course in nutrition while I cook! The best part is that it's suitable for anyone. I'm a vegetarian and my husband eats meat, but I can cook for us both with this book. There are so many recipes to choose from (even some from celebrity chefs!) that are all so easy-to-follow and absolutely delicious. Who knew eating healthy could taste so good? This book has already changed my life - I love it!

I have been getting the Clean Plates newsletters and using their book to find out great, healthy restaurants in NYC for a while now. I couldn't be more excited that Clean Plates has a cookbook too! It not only has great recipes, but detailed information about how to eat for your OWN body, and I can't wait to try out all of the recipes. I highly recommend this cookbook to anyone looking to clean up their their diet.

Who doesn't want good tasting, healthy food? That is what this book is all about. Now, I will be honest here, I'm not a huge all-organic, gluten free, healthy only type of cook. I do, however, try to cook healthier versions of whatever I cook when I can. My passion is Sicilian cooking, which does fall into healthier eating with lots of fresh fruits, vegetables and seafood. I have always been against your average soy products, and it was nice to see a mainstream, healthy cookbook that isn't full of soy products.

This book is so full of good information. It really breaks down what is good, what is not and why. It is not a vegetarian or vegan cookbook as it does have a few beef, chicken and fish--and even pork!!--recipes. I like that. I'm an omnivore, and the chances of me giving up meat are pretty slim. Cut down, maybe, but definitely not give up!

The recipes are mostly quite simple. That simplicity coupled with good quality ingredients is what makes the dish. The Garlic Mashed Butternut Squash was so simple to make, but really delicious. It would make a perfect side dish for Thanksgiving. I was thrilled to find a recipe for granola using steel cut oats. I had been wondering how to use them in my granola, but hadn't found a recipe for it. I can't wait to try the Sauteed Shaved Brussels Sprouts with Shallots and Almonds. I like them roasted, and this recipe sounds particularly good!

If you are already cooking healthy and looking for more recipes, or if you are looking to change to a healthier lifestyle, then this cookbook is for you. I highly recommend it.
