3.0 out of 5 stars Does not come with product key!!! February 24, 2010

Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
I just wanted to warn everyone that the boxed game had some kind of print error or something, and the manual shipped WITHOUT the product key on the back. If you buy it, you will have to go to Sega's website [...], register and account (if you don't already have one), and then submit a ticket. You will have to send them a picture of your receipt and/or a picture of the game with a slip of paper with your name on it... or something that proves that you have the actual game (and didn't just DL it LOL).

I don't know if ALL versions have this problem, or if it was just a region-specific problem (I bought mine at a BEST BUY store, in Northern California).

They [Sega] were pretty good about getting back to me and getting me a CD KEY, but the hassle itself is something that could have been avoided if they had done a RECALL on the game to correct the manual print-error.

I JUST received my code today, so I haven't played the game yet... and thus don't know what's like, but I'm sure that it is good and I will like it (I wouldn't have bought it otherwise). If I remember, I may come back later to update my review with my thoughts on the game.... (but most likely I'll forget lol).

2.0 out of 5 stars JOIN THE CLUB AT YOUR OWN RISK February 28, 2008

Something not mentioned enough during the Writer's Guild strike was that the difference between the (deservedly successful) TERMINATOR 2 and the (deservedly flopped) LAST ACTION HERO was their writing. One can have all the star power possible, manage to incorporate a mega-explosion every 93sec, enjoy more hype that can be handled - and yet fail to sell even matinées tickets if the writing is not up to par.

Games are not that different. Visually and graphically beautiful games can fall flat on their face if not backed by a good story - see DAWN OF MAGIC and DUNGEON SIEGE II. THE CLUB suffers not from story problems - because it...does not pretend to have one worth mentioning.
In this Third-Person Shooter one fights to survive the blood-sport organized by an elitist club of uber-rich. Assuming one of 8 characters (each with his own story that led him to bloodlust), with an interesting arsenal at his disposal, this is a cross between a shooter and a racing game: unless you keep shooting at (and hitting) your targets your bonus multipliers drop fast. Unless you gain enough bonuses to augment your effectiveness, there is no chance to win.

Similar to most fast-paced shooters, there are 5 single player game modes: Standard, Time Attack, Survivor, Siege, and Run the Gauntlet. Sure, all concepts have been done to death ever since UT2003 - but that is not THE CLUB's main problem.

Games are not exactly the same as movies. Writing is important but if the gameplay suffers, the whole effort is in vain. THE CLUB is another game clumsily ported from the XBOX. Similar to the GEARS OF WAR, the controls do not work well on a PC.

The game is... Well... Forgettable. You are not missing anything by not playing this... That is IF you can even install it first!

Some mindless fun, but not really much to warrant writing an in-depth review for.

Went to install it on Windows 7 and when asked for the CD-Key, it was NOWHERE to be found. Just a blank spot where it SHOULD HAVE BEEN.

In my books, that is an instant one star review right there.

I really did not feel like going through customer support and emails and registration to get a product key for a $5 game. Found a crack for it, installed it, and it played fine, boring and repetitive, but played fine. It did not feel like it was made with a single player in mind and felt too much like a multiplayer game, with some pretty bad AI at that.

Bottom Line:
I would have asked for a refund if it was over $5 Otherwise it is a "meh" kill-em-up game. In all honesty I would say to just skip it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, but not memorable game September 14, 2010

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
First, lets get this clear - this game doesn't pretend to be Game of the Year champion. It's very simple game - shoot, shoot some more, run like Hell and then shoot again. No brain needed. As such, I find it quite relaxing after a long day at work - switch of your brain, put it in a jar on a shelf and go crazy with this game! It costs only $1.95, for God's sake!

Story is simple - some rich guys came with idea to start a club where winner gets ton of money on the end. Catch? You got to survive and kill more people than Stallone in Rambo 1, 2 and 3 together.

Game is challenging even for old gaming dog like me. I do play it on my 17" laptop tho, I guess you'd have more success on a 22" screen and a good mouse - and that's what you actually need. A solid, fast mouse. From some reason, my OCZ gaming mouse (laser, not optical one) isn't quite most responsive thingie in this game. You might have to spend some time to get used to it. I expect people with serious gaming mice (Razor etc...) will be upset...a lot.

As simple as game story seems, game is fun and addictive. Mindless slaughter without consenquences seems to be a dream of majority of human population, and here that dream is fullfilled to it's extremes. When you're in SURVIVAL level, even your bloodthirstiness will be tested. On the other hand, don't expect excessive gore and blood all over the place. This is not Resident Evil.

Bottom line: nice, cheap game worth playing. It's not the game that will leave long lasting memories but it's worth spending some time to improve your hand-eye coordination :)
