Very enjoyable read. Took me to places I probably will never visit in real life and kept my attention throughout.

I really enjoyed this book. A lot. What was so enjoyable for me, which is perhaps specific just to me, is the author is from a different era (visit his website for an interesting read about an interesting person) and the way his characters speak and behave remind me of very early detective novels that I love. Yet this story is set in modern times. Very fun! The action in the story moves fast, and the locales visited by the characters seem like they come from personal experience. There's a lot of globe trotting, and that was just as fun as the mystery being tracked down. A real enjoyable read. Had trouble putting it down and wished the story was longer when I did.

I am always looking for the next engrossing thriller. And now I can say I have found a new one! The Coin by John H. Manhold is pure escapism at its best. It's a classic quest adventure for an ancient Persian coin that has all the elements of a successful novel: it's fast-paced, well-written, populated by believable characters, and the action moves through exotic locations. I give this book five stars and recommend it to anyone who loves to read great fiction.

It won the finalist award in the INDIE National Excellence Competition beating out competitors in the mystery and suspense category. That convinced me to buy the book. And having read it I understand why it won the award. The Coin is really rich. It is so evident that the author really knows his stuff. The description of the ancient coin and how the world moved from barter to currency in ancient times is fascinating. If this was a history lesson it was one that was just as exciting as it was informative. But there's more. The descriptions of Muslim culture and locales are so true to reality that I was actually transported to the desert described in the book. This book is believable in every sense of the word and that makes it a memorable read which I have already recommended to all the book-lovers I know.
