There are several volumes of books listing colleges and their offerings - those are a dime a dozen! But there are few, if any, that provide such well-rounded perpsective and insight into the college selection process. After reading this guide, I have benefited from the experience and expertise of the authors - I now feel well advised on the selection process. This advice just doesn't come from the schools, no matter how well-intentioned the guidance counselors are; and the additional tips and insight will make the difference between dreading the process, and enjoying it! Thank you Rebecca and Susan for compiling this!

College is the first chance for many young adults to leave home. Choose wisely. "The College Selection Compass: Helping Families Navigate a Difficult Course" is a guide aimed at families with a future college freshman among them. Choosing the right college is one of the most important decisions a young intellectual can make, and authors Callow and Nichols want to give families all the information they need to make that decision an informed one. "The College Selection Compass" is well worth considering for those undecided where they want to spend the next four years.

Great colleges can be found all over the United States and not just at the top of the college rankings. The best advice for students as well as parents and professionals is to start with a careful examination of personal goals for college. What do you want to get out of college? This places the focus of the college search on the 'fit' between student and school. College rankings should not trump the fit. Ultimately, this is what becomes most important when the student sets foot on campus. Ronald A. Crutcher, President, Wheaton College
