Editorial Reviews

Review

"Not only provides us with accurate reporting of the rich tennis history, it keeps us current on the progress of the sport today."  —Billy Jean King, tennis player and founder of the Women's Tennis Association

"If you know nothing about tennis, this book is for you. And if you know everything about tennis—hah!—Bud knows more, so this book is for you too."  —Martina Navratilova, nine-time Wimbledon singles champion

"No tennis encyclopedia could be written by anyone but Bud Collins because Bud Collins is the walking tennis encyclopedia—the game's barefoot professor. The only thing missing about the sport from his new edition is a section about Bud himself. But everything else is there—and it's easy to open and use for the whole family."  —Frank Deford, author, commentator, and Sports Illustrated contributor

"I wanted to see what size tennis shoe Ivan Lendl wore and I thought, 'Where the heck is my copy of The Bud Collins History of Tennis?'"  —Don Imus, host, Imus in the Morning radio program

Format: Paperback
This is an authoritative, comprehensive reference work, a necessity for anyone interested in the history of tennis. The b/w photos are wonderful although printed on plain-text stock, and the copy is always the usual Bud Collins as journalist stuff, amusing and arch, with all the stats one could possibly desire.

My copy, however, has neither date nor place of publication listed anywhere, making me wonder about its authenticity. Furthermore, typos abound.

Still, I wouldn't be without this tome, especially with the Open coming up so soon.

Bud's History of Tennis book provides information, details, insights, names of tennis greats and places that are offered in no other book on tennis that I have ever read. A great gift for anyone who loves tennis or for any youngster starting to play the game. Perfect "bar mitzvah" along with a new racket and balls present! This opus is priceless and any pro, teaching, coaching or playing, who doesn't own a copy...should take up golf! Indeed, add it to your pro shop inventory and sell the darn book!

Bud Collins offers a totally enjoyable read of the history of tennis. I came to tennis recently, so I appreciate the information on the older matches.
