Editorial Reviews

Produced by Mike Green (Over It) and Mixed by Joe Barresi (Queens Of The Stone Age, Bad Religion, The Melvins), this highly anticipated release shows a more streamlined Rufio, trading adolescent pop/punk for a more straightforward and refined melodic rock approach. Nitro Records. 2005.

The Good

"Out of Control" wallops you right off the bat with a frantic muted progression and rapid-fire guitar licks. An infectious little groove dominates "Let Fate Decide". Scott Sellers vocals come off soothing and impassioned here. The track switches back and forth in tempo. "Never Learn" keeps the energy flowing at break-neck speed. The pounding drums and impressive axemanship help define the songs character. "Mental Games" has a real rock radio feel to it with its simple structure, memorable lyrics, and familiar chord changes.

The drum pattern used on "Life Songs" really stands out, but the melodic vocals and biting riffs are just as noteworthy. Usually the final track of an album is the slowest and dullest. Let's admit it, no one listens to it. Don't make that mistake with "My Escape". Rufio keeps the party going with this fervent rock track. There are four segue track throughout the album that are the heaviest and coolest arrangements. If they were put together, they would make one great old-school metal song.

The Bad

Nothing

The Verdict

The Comfort of Home is full of in-your-face, well written, pop-punk rock tracks that will keep your adrenaline flowing from beginning to end.

Even before I got the CD from the Virgin Megastore, I got a chance to listen to "Out Of Control" because there was a free download off [...]and all I have to say that I knew Rufio was back. As soon as I got my hands off of the CD I listened to the whole CD and then listened to the CD again on that same day just to go through the experience again. Since I have listened to all of their CD's (Perhaps, I Suppose, 1985, and The Comfort Of Home), I can honestly say that this CD is the one that is for a die-hard fan of Rufio. Now to the conclusion.
Songs
1)Out Of Control 5/5

As the pop-punk scene expands and innovates itself past simple rhythms and four chord monotony, Rufio's The Comfort of Home stands in the forefront of the crowd developing a new and improved sound based on well designed rhythms, and lightning fast lead guitar riffs. And all this is great, but the key factor of this band that makes it stand out from its peers (SEE Fallout Boy, Blink 182) is the excellent musicianship exhibited by all four members.

Coming off its slightly subpar sophomore release, 1985, a lot of people expected the foursome to fall into the same trap of melodic mediocrity, which, despite the speedy tempos, managed to sound very uninspired at every other song. The Comfort of Home avoids this error, for the most part. Tracks such as the angst-filled opener, "Out of Control", and "Drowning" epitomize a passionate originality, and, in my opinion, are the definite high-points of this album. Other songs, like "Let Fate Decide", seem to sink into an identity crisis, failing to elicit any real emotion from the listener.

Another little gripe I have is with the lyrical content. Half the time you can't understand what the lead singer is actually saying, though his disjunct voice melodies are well-crafted enough to assure you that he didn't just pick up a microphone 2 days before getting to the studio. The actual lyrics, however, are a different story. Perhaps they were actually trying to give off the impression that a teenager vainly attempting emo poetry came up with the words--it fits with the genre, right?

Rufio's my favorite band! I just love them

When i heard "Perhaps, i suppose" i loved it, one of the few albums that when i start hearing it i must wait for it to end to change the cd. It was awesome. Than came out "1985", another mind-blowing album...another very fast and addictive album. Now Rufio's back with "The Comfort Of Home".

This album is almost perfect! You can see that the guys in the band all have grown up, musically and lyrically ... The lyrics in this album are very mature, and very well written.

If the subject is clever, fast and technical guitar riffs Clark is f***ing awesome. If you just remember "Above me" or "Science Fiction" intro riffs you'll know what i'm talking about... in " The Comfort of Home"...Clark is back with full strenght!

Amazing guitar riffs, fast songs, catchy choruses and many other things are guarantied in this album. If you heard any of the Rufio's old stuff and liked it, than you must hear this album...it won't let you down.

And if I was you, I'd buy this album right away!
