I am interested in politics so I enjoy reading books about our country.
Mindful Mamma
Biblical truth was at the heart of this book, and Dr. Lee conveyed it and our nation's founding history well.
Michelle
For others, I think this book will be another scathing book by another conservative.

Can't tell you how much we loved this book! This author gives a very thorough, but brief history of our country, how it was founded, and where we are headed at the moment if things don't change. It is an "all hands on deck" cry to Christians to get up and take back the country that God gave us to be the "city on the hill." The author speaks intelligently on all matters - he's a noted pastor, teacher, historian and even sits on the board at Oxford University in England. Never have I read a book that more strongly intertwines America's past and how we're losing her with what we're doing in the present. It's quite scary, and unless we do something, we're in for a huge surprise. Did you know that all of the previous presidents combined are not even close to amassing the debt that our current president has done - 5 trillion in just 3 years? Talk about throwing our country down the garbage chute! The author cites examples of what happened in other countries throughout Europe that followed our current president's plan; and their eventual downfall into poverty and debauchery.

The history is all there - grab this book if you're a parent of a teen that has no idea on how our country was formed. We have uneducated our children on America's history and if we continue this trend, then we will no longer have anyone around that will care about or even know why they should fight to keep America, America. The greatest country on earth! Highly recommend

Given the current political climate in our country, especially at the begining of an election year, I thought it would be prudent to start sharpening my political focus, so I picked up The Coming Revolution: Signs from America's Past that Signal Our Nation's Future as my next book to read.

Lee has a very Republican/Conservative/anti-Obama viewpoint, so to many of my liberal friends he will be very hard to swallow. However, my conservative/Tea Party friends will find a lot of common ground with him.

One of the things I greatly appreciated about this book was how much historical perspective on our country was given. As we move into the election season, I think this is a must read for conservatives who are not happy with the way our country is heading because I think he gives a lot of advice from history as to how to get where we need to be. One thing he makes extremely clear is that the founding fathers assumed the country woukd be run by men and women of faith, they knew that a republic/democracy would not survive if there were not men and women of faith to run it...human nature is just too selfish. Overall, I would definitely recommend The Coming Revolution to anyone who is not happy with the current political environment or anyone who wants to read about how the faith of the nation's founders affected how they structured our country.

The Coming Revolution: Signs from America's Past That Signal Our Nation's Future is the fifth book from Dr. Richard Lee, founding pastor of First Redeemer Church in the Atlanta, Georgia area. Like each of the four previous works by Dr. Lee, The Coming Revolution takes a close look at the necessity of a strong bond between the evangelical church and the success of America. Without digging too deep, and with minimal effort, this book implies the success of "liberal" politicians signals the start of America's disintegration. As the title suggests, the book hopes for a groundswell of conservative, evangelical, ideology; returning America to it's "traditional conservative roots." This call for revolution would be the American "Arab Spring" in the town square and more importantly in voting precincts across America (This book was written pre-2012 election).

I accept the premise of Dr. Lee's position, I understand it as a viewpoint. However, this text is quite biased and doesn't present any opposing viewpoints with much if any credibility. While this book isn't quite propaganda, it blurs the line between legitimate opinion based writing and propaganda. I did, however, find the book to be engaging, mostly well-written and a good read if this subject is of interest to the reader. If the plea for Americans to return to Christ and conservative evangelical ideology is a subject of interest, then this is the book for you. The few negatives I have about the book (beyond the disagreement with it's thesis) is its seemingly unapologetic divisive tone. Lee makes sweeping assertions in this book based solely on an incredibly small sample of history.

"The Coming Revolution" is an encapsulation of the resurgence of the "American" spirit. In the past few years, it seems the divide between the different parties and political views have reached a fever pitch in polarity. If you're reading this review, then you likely know the players: liberal progressives with a hankering for fundamentally transforming the U.S. and those that are calling for return to our roots, to what has made America great (with the majority of the Republican party lost somewhere in between).

Lee writes as a voice of the latter and gives a good overview of the worldview and metastory that guides that perspective. He surveys the current landscape, traces American history, gives a vision of what America should be, describes the things standing in the way, and sounds a call to respond, giving practical ways to apply what he's presented.

For Lee, the whole conversation really revolves around the faith and character of the American people, what he says are the sources of America's greatness. As core values, Lee believes Americans need the principles of life (as in pro-life) and traditional marriage, a hard work ethic, God-centered education, a view that God is our God from an official-national standpoint, a striving for common decency, and a commitment to God as individuals. Jointly, much importance is placed upon the founding documents and fathers, with things diminishing their influence considered a threat. The main foes? Secularism and historical revisionism that have paved the way for our path of national suicide. Lee sees a revolution back to the true spirit of America coming mainly by way of grassroots activism, like the Tea Party movement, and prayer. Individuals need to get involved, spread the truth they know, and prevail until change comes.
