About the Author

Milt Rodriguez has been living in and planting organic expressions of the church since 1990. He has also authored several books including The Butterfly in You and The Temple Within. He currently lives with his wife Mary in Florida.

More About the Author

My name is Milt Rodriguez and I came to know Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour in July of 1973 in Southern California. Since then, my wife, Mary, and I have been involved with numerous churches and ministries. Everything from the Jesus People movement, to the charismatic movement, denominational, non-denominational, pentecostal, fundamental, and evangelical movements and churches.

We have served as deacons, elders, worship leaders, youth leaders, pastors, and street ministry to the wayward youth on the streets of South Orange County in California and Bellingham, Washington.

For the last 18 years or so, we having been interested and working in what some people are now calling the "house church movement". In 1990 we moved to Northern California and started a few "house churches". These are groups where all the believers are encouraged and taught to function as the Body of Christ in the gatherings. The meetings are very informal and casual and anyone and everyone can share what the Lord has placed on their hearts. Also, there is an emphasis on the following: the centrality of the Person of Jesus Christ, the eternal purpose of God, the church as the living expression of Jesus Christ (in all of His aspects), community (sharing our lives together), and bringing the love and good news of Christ to the world.

We have since been planting such churches throughout the country and several other countries.

We feel that this can best be done in small units that we call organic house churches. These are usually small groups of 20 or less believers. They exist to fulfill the eternal purpose of God which is the make Jesus Christ the sum of all things (Eph. 1:9,10). He is the Head, Life, and Center of the Church and we are here to flesh out that eternal purpose.

Read it slowly and digest it.

Brothers and sisters, if we are going to participate in God's eternal purpose... we must be intentional about our relationships within the local ekklesia of Christ.

The God Who Is Relationship
A Book Review of "The Community Life of God: Seeing the Godhead As the Model for All Relationships" by Milt Rodriguez
Reviewed by David D. Flowers

"God is not an individual" says Milt Rodriguez. "He is a fellowship of three Persons; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit" (p.14).

In The Community Life of God, Rodriguez weaves together the story of God's desire to plant himself in His people. God's image is a "communal" image. The Lord created man in His image of community. And taking from the Tree of Life (i.e. Christ) is to take from the relational God.

It was in the Garden of Eden that the serpent sought to keep God's image from becoming a reality in the hearts of men. The enemy of God presented man with individual living out of his own soul-life (i.e. will, emotions, intellect). Instead of man pursuing spiritual living after taking from the communal life of God, he experiences separation from God and other men.

Rodriguez proposes that much of Christian activity today is spent furthering the individualistic mindset that is so popular in our culture. Even when believers come together corporately there is not an understanding of God's image among us. Church life is more than socializing and individual Christian ministries.

Milt writes, "Personhood and identity can only be defined by relating to others. You will never truly "find yourself" until you are living in the community life of God" (p.62)

What is the sort of fellowship the Lord desires among his ekklesia?

"This fellowship is the place where there is nothing to hide. Complete truthfulness and complete honesty rule here. The Father, Son, and Spirit do not hold back anything from one another...

What an amazing book Milt Rodriguez has written! In The Community Life of God, he looks extensively at the incredible relationship that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit enjoy with one another. He beautifully explores their life together and how it is meant to be our life together as well. We can experience the love, the sacrifice, the passion, the selflessness that the Godhead has enjoyed within themselves for eternity past. This book includes some very deep and profound insights yet it is very accessible and easy to read. Take your time and slowly consume the life giving words contained within as you come to understand the purpose God set forth in Jesus Christ before creation.

In addition, I would recommend all of Milt's books. They are centered on our Lord and you will gain immeasurably from reading them. In fact, EVERY Christian should read his books. They are all that good

Excellent book; first of its kind that I've read. I highly recommend it for all ministers of the Word as well as common lay people who desire to know God in all of His total being i.e. the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. You just have to read it for yourself. The unity of the Lord our God is really remarkable.

As a student of theology, this book has given me a clear picture of the Community life of God and a clear path to serve Him in a true organic way. I'm glad that I came in contact with this amazing material. May God's will and purpose be done for His glory!

My husband and I are studying this book with a few friends. More than one person has said," I feel like I need to read the Bible all over again, through the lens of community instead of individuality." This book is paradigm-shifting. Most of us, Westerners especially, are so me-centered. Reading this book helps to open up the wider perspective of community in God and with each other.
