About the Author

I recieved a teaching degree in Health and Physical Education from Captial University in Columbus, Ohio. I am currently working on a Master's dregree in Sport Sciences from Ashland University. I teach Health and Physical Education at a middle school in central Ohio. I am also an American Red Cross instructor. I teach Lifeguard Training, Water Safety Instruction, First Aid, CPR and AED Administration.I have spent the better part of my life learning and teaching about how to best be safe and maintain a safe environment for everyone's enjoyment. Whether that is in a classroom, a gym or at a pool, safety is my first priority. I took a great amount of time to write this book so that I would purposefully not include anything that I personally felt was an unsafe or would be an unsafe situation for students. Not only have I developed a lot of the games, with the help of my fellow teaching staff, I have played every game within this book with my students to see for myself how it played out. If I felt that any game listed in this book was unsafe to be a part of I would not have included it. It is the teacher that makes a game safe or unsafe-not the students/ players.I myself am nothing more than a student learning from my students. I have watched and listened to them very intently to create games and movement units that they will not only enjoy but gain needed health benefits from. The students love the game of Dodgeball and I have seen how hard they work at playing the game.I hope you enjoy the book and have as much success with Dodgeball as I have.

While titled "The Complete Book About Dodgeball", it must be noted that this book is written by a Physical Education teacher as a resource for Physical Education teachers. The book is formatted for easy and simple reading, with a fair inclusion of different game variations and their appropriate rules. Following is a small section on different techniques and different tricks to try out. The author also justly compares the physical danger of dodgeball to more mainstream school sponsored sports, such as football, in his argument to keep dodgeball in school. This argument is compelling and is witnessed in various forms throughout the book. Concurrently, the author is also very conscious about his students' safety in his activities. He endorses proper settings and the correct equipment. "Safety First", as the saying goes, and Keyes is a strong proponent of this. Having taught school-age P.E., I understand and agree with his concerns for a safe, yet fun game of dodgeball.

Now, my concerns. The book itself feels sloppy. There are numerous spelling and grammatical errors, and the book's informal conversational tone makes it difficult to follow at times. The book contains maps and plans for specific variations of dodgeball, but they're drawn in a hasty, MS-Paint style freehand that appears very rough. The accompanying text to these images are also somewhat difficult to read (at least on the Kindle version).

In review, this book isn't the "Complete" book about dodgeball. It would do fine for P.E. Teachers who are looking to expand their collection of material. If 'regular dodgeball' is growing dull and tedious (which is difficult to do in a 45 minute class), then this book comes recommended just fine. The collegiate or league player would not find many things new to them in this book.

I really enjoyed reading this book, and not just because i am a fellow PE teacher. The book points out how the game is no longer the red rubber ball against the wall game anymore. It has grown and changed into quite a complex and strategic game for students. The book has a lot of great games, complete with diagrams, that I will be sure to use with my students. The book is easy to read and written with a certain amount of humor just to keep you thinking. I was unaware of just much the game has impacted other parts of our society-with leagues forming in rec. center and 2 national organizations that have tournaments. If you liked the movie you will enjoy reading the book.

I have a dodgeball afterschool class 1 day per week. It is wonderful to have a variety of games to play besides the typical bombardment.
Using Amazon was easy and the book was here within 3 days.
