Book Description

You'll find yourself laughing out loud while reading The Complete Bubby Anthology, a compilation of the five epic-ish tales of a superhero named Bubby. First time author, B. P. Draper, deftly tells the humorous story of how a nerd is suddenly endowed with super powers and is called on to save the world from destruction over and over again. At the same time, Bubby learns that girls like him a lot more as a suave superhero than they ever did when he was a high school nerd.

As an added bonus, the anthology includes three side-splitting "interviews," in which Mr. Draper essentially interviews himself and answers all the questions you've been dying to know the answers to.

Bubby I - Robert, a social outcast all of his life, suddenly receives the powers of Bubby. In a flash, his life is completely turned around. In other words, the ladies dig him! When the world is threatened by an evil force, will the inexperienced Bubby be able to summon the strength to save it, and make it back in time for his many dates?

Bubby II - Bubby, having defeated the mighty force of Franco Micromind, settles back to enjoy to rewards of being a superhero. While guest starring on the latest hit talk show, Dat alerts him that the world once again needs to be rescued by him. Will Bubby save the world, or take some time out for his fans and sign autographs?

Bubby III - Bubby is matched up in the most uneven fight of his career. The Auspicious Avenger (killed in Bubby II) returns as AA7 (Double-A Seven) to destroy Bubby. Backed by the all-powerful, all-evil Shadow Master, is failure an option for AA7? No; and that is exactly why Bubby is in for the ride of his life. Can Bubby do it again, or will he be found 6-feet under?

Bubby IV - Anything that Bubby may have faced before is nothing compared to what he faces now. Sick of creations that fail him, Shadow Master ventures out to destroy Bubby for himself. Unrivaled in all aspects, Shadow Master provides Bubby twelve hours to prepare. Will Bubby stop Shadow Master's attempt at world domination, or will his crash course in fighting the ultimate evil fail?

Bubby V - Once upon a time, when Shadow Master was Shadow Student, he created an evil life form. This creature was unlike any other. Soon it became so powerful that even Shadow Master himself feared him, and was forced to banish him. Finally, ten years after the fall of Shadow Master, Draben is released. Bubby must now face the evil supreme (hold the onions). Will Bubby be able to knock off a foe greater than all others, or will he be caught napping on the job?

Editorial Reviews

Anatole France said, "The books that everybody admires are those that nobody reads." If that is true, then this cult classic may be the most admired book of all-time. Written in the 1990's, the stories of the superhero, Bubby, were never available in one volume until now. While I would like to formally note that this book sucks, at least it is aware of that fact - and often pokes fun of itself for that very reason! Fortunately, as bad as it is, the story is also laugh-out-loud hilarious. It is a superhero satire written for nerds, by a nerd. My trouble with this book is that I would have liked to see the characters fleshed-out more in the early stories. To Mr. Draper's credit, he does this more in the fourth and fifth installments, which I would argue are the best of bunch. The book is a quick read, as all five episodes are short stories in themselves. And so it is that I find myself giving a positive review to a lousy book, because it left me with a smile on my face. -- Braden Erp (This review refers to the 17th anniversary anthology edition of the Bubby series).

From the Back Cover

Robert has dreamed of a life of popularity. Sadly, he is a nerd, so such a dream is out of his reach. However, when he is struck to death by lightning, Robert learns how to really live... as Bubby.

For the first time ever, all five epic-ish tales of your favorite super-powered hero, Bubby, are available in one volume. The Complete Bubby Anthology has everything a die-hard fan could ask for. In addition to a brand new introduction by author, B. P. Draper, this edition includes three never before published interviews with the author.

Critical praise for The Complete Bubby Anthology:
"Pretty good... very interesting."
- Joe D., Michigan
"I actually laughed all the way through the story--even through the whole operation suicide tactic."
- Kelli G., California
"Woo-hoo! I'm getting quoted on the back of my own book!"
- B. P. D., author

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun to Read January 13, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I admit I have not read the whole book but parts are entertaining. Part of the fun is being reminded of the writing style of a high school kid in the mid west. Not very well written, but still fun.

I paid extra for one day shipping so we could get it in time to let the kids read the book on our road trip. Some of the kids (I have four) thought it was fun reading but again they didn't finish the book either.

B.P. Draper has real potential as an author. I look forward to reading his next book.

More About the Author

Once a pathetic and lonely nerd, B. P. Draper was in high school in 1995, when he first wrote Bubby I. Since that time he has become increasingly nerdy, though somewhat less socially awkward. He is now a happily married adult and proud father of three children.

In his spare time he watches Star Wars and Tron and makes up funny bedtime stories for his children (some of which will likely be published one day soon).
