Since purchasing my first DSLR, I've checked out just about every photography book our county library has to offer. In my search for THE book, I found some too elementary and some too abstruse. For me Digital Photo Manual hits the sweet spot and is perfect for me. For those who are seasoned photographers and those who are comfortable using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, there may not be much here for you to learn.

The Book

There are seven chapters, a glossary, and a list of useful contacts. The book is well laid out with numerous example photographs, sidebars and captions. A reader is not overwhelmed by a sea of endless, uninterrupted text.

The first three chapters deal with camera types, lenses and essential accessories. I especially like the fourth chapter which explains camera basics and how to use all that your SLR has to offer. I can't read enough about aperture myself.

In the fifth chapter the reader learns about post processing using Photoshop or Photoshop Essentials. For someone like me who's just getting his feet wet with Elements, this chapter couldn't be handier. The tutorials are easy to follow with many helpful visuals.

Inspirational Photography in chapter 6 is for those who are ready to use their newfound knowledge with things like texture, self portraits, multiple exposure, flash, dodge and burn, and many other topics.

The last chapter deals with RAW imaging, what it is and what to do with thise RAW files once you've captured them. Again for someone who's unfamiliar with RAW, this chapter can be a just what the doctor ordered.

If I were to buy one photography book to keep on my shelf for ready reference and review, this would be it. The advanced photographer won't find it as useful.

I borrowed this book from a local library. After two days of reading through it I decided to buy it. The first half of the book is geared towards the beginner photographer and contains a lot of useful information in an easy format. The second half is geared towards the beginner to intermediate photographer and setting up interesting, creative shots. This is a great purchase for anyone looking to get into photography or current photographers looking for some creative tutorials in both picture taking methods and photoshop.

My daughter checked this book out twice from our local library. She loved it so much she just had to have it for her own! She is very interested in photography and this book has so much information on taking good pictures! She someday wants to be a professional photographer and this book is a great starting point.

That's what this book is. It gives you great input on everything from camera selection to post-processing and includes sections on things like landscape photography and Camera Raw. I first came across this book at the library and after perusing it once, I knew I HAD to own it because it was just that good. I purchased this book and with my prime membership and it arrived before the library copy was due back YAY!

It was written by an English author, based on some of the spelling (like colour) but thus far (and I've read about half of it) this hasn't been an issue.

This book is like NEW! It is one of the very best that I have ever come across to explain, in everyday language, the step-by-step process of camera and lens selection to the again, step-by-step editing of the photo using Photoshop Elements. The book was packaged well and quickly shipped.
Excellent!!! This whole Amazon transaction could not have been better!

This is one of the most helpful photography books I've read. It talks about a lot of topics that you wonder about as a beginner. For example, how does focal length of your lens affect the background of a picture? I've heard some advanced photographers say that you can simply move forward or backward to adjust if you have a prime lens. This book taught me that the focal length of your lens can affect the "cropping" of the background even after you adjust the size of the subject by moving forward or backward. There are pictures that will show the comparison between different focal lengths.

This book also talks about the relationship between aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. There are lots of pictures to illustrate the effects of changing the aperture, shutter speed, or ISO. If you're a visual learner like me, you'll love this book. I highly recommend it to beginners and even advanced photographers who like to learn a few new tricks since there is a chapter on interesting photography projects.

I got this book from the library but there was lots and lots of things in it that I liked, so ended up buying it.
It written in a simple enough language for somebody who's just getting to know the manual options on their camera.
It provides tips not only on photo taking but also editing.
