I have this and the "Dummies" guide. They are a bit different, both good in their own way.

This book leans strongly in the direction of an "all natural" approach and gives some good reasoning for that, where as the dummies guide is a traditional "treat it this way when disease x shows up," and almost alway with chemicals (though more natural approaches are referenced).

As a new bee keeper (me) you won't go wrong with either. The dummies guide give a little better equipment description and has photos of common problems which is nice. They are cheap, so just get both. You'll see two sides of a somewhat controversial issue in beekeeping (treat vs no treat).

Many other beekeeping books are directed toward beekeeping for honey production. I just wanted to provide a home for bees. This guide was directed more to my goal as opposed to honey for profit.

Another great reference book. The Beekeeping for Dummies book is a little more comprehensive. This book has great pictures/ drawings.

Complete Idiot's Guide was exactly what I was looking for. I had bees back in the '70s and into the '80s but lost interest due to the town spraying for mosquitos unannounced and also the treatments that were becoming fashionable at that time. So I need to come up to speed and learn new skills; small cell, queen raising, treatment free, etc. This book provided a quick reintroduction for me. On Kindle, so cheap!

Easy to read, lots of useful information, plenty of tips, and the most important thing is strongly promotes go back to natural beekeeping.
I recommend it

This book, though slightly less expansive, is superior to "Beekeeping for Dummies". TCIG, like Ross Conrad's "Natural Beekeeping", suggests alternatives to the use of chemicals and artificial beekeeping techniques.

This is a good basic book on treatment-free beekeeping. It also concentrates on natural, small-cell regression. Was hoping for more specifics, but overall this is a good book.

This book offers a great base for a beginner beekeeper like me. I will keep this book close at hand for many years as a reference.

As a beginning bee keeper I found the book very helpful. It explained things simply in an organized way. Well worth the purchase.

helps. there are so many opposing theories about how to care for bees. and many of them work. this gives us a starting point.
