3.0 out of 5 stars This is so worth it. January 7, 2007
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Yes, the other reviewer is correct: songs 13 & 14 from disc one were repeated in spots 2 & 3 on CD 2 (which means the songs "Pilot" and "The war you left" were missing entirely. I am an extremely fussy listener and buyer and was upset over this. I contacted the label and they recognized their error in their first printing; re-recorded the second cd and corrected it and sent it to me! This makes for one truly complete Joy Of Cooking, all on one cd and at a very reasonable price.(Look at the price of these cd's seperately). The sound is typical for the early 70' won't please those obsessed with remasters. It will please those that remember the band. This was an under estimated band and their folk and Joplinesque stylings are very pleasing to the ear. A toast to Acadia Records for not only making the release available but for correcting their error. This is great hard to find material. Go ahead indulge yourself! Note: I have edited this review after the cd was corrected and the program will not allow me to change this from 3 stars to 5. I now rate this at 5 stars.

1.0 out of 5 stars retracting one star review - would make it a FIVE! November 15, 2006
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Yes, I was the first to review this CD. And I was upset. Gave it one star because of the two missing tracks. But time has passed, and I read the other reviews that said that the problem had been corrected. (Though I did not get any response from the distributors when I contacted them.) So I re-ordered the CD. And, yes, it IS the COMPLETE Joy of Cooking!

Sorry that I can't seem to change the one star to five on Amazon!

There is no sound quite like Joy of Cooking (unless you get Terry Garthwaite's solo CDs, available from her website). The country/rock harmonies. Terry and Toni get it together, with fine support from the rest of the group. From mellow to rockin'. Truly great. Truly fine.

All the songs are great. If I can pick favorites, though, they would be "Brownsville/Mockingbird," "Red Wine at Noon," "Pilot" (wherein Terry channels Janis Joplin), and "Closer to the Ground."

Yes, get this CD. You'll not regret it.

I am so glad to have all of Joy of Cooking on one collection.

(original review below)
I love Joy of Cooking, and was thrilled to see a "complete" CD. However, the copy I received is not "complete." Tracks 2 & 3 on CD #2, which are supposed to be "Pilot" and "The War You Left Behind" are duplicates of tracks 12 & 13 ("Blues for a Friend" and "New Colorado Blues") on CD #1. "Pilot" and "The War You Left Behind" are not on either CD.

I e-mailed the distribution company (in England) but received no reply.

When I brought it to Amazon's attention, I was instructed to return the item for a refund, which I have done.

It's too bad that this isn't really a complete Joy of Cooking. Had it been complete, I would have rated this five stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Group from the Seventies January 11, 2008
By Beth C.
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I wanted to let everyone know that the problem with the repeated songs was corrected - my CD was perfect. Joy of Cooking has a great synthesis of rock, country, blues and jazz with two very different female vocalists. There are so many wonderful songs here that you'll want to get this collection of all three albums. I particularly liked "Hush", "Did You Go Downtown", "Blues for a Friend", "Laugh, Don't Laugh", "Brownsville/Mockingbird", "Castles", etc. They were truly ahead of their time.
