1.0 out of 5 stars you people HAVE to be kidding, right? September 8, 2011
Maybe you all work for the publisher of this book...I don't know. But we were obviously not reading the same book. Quick, overly scientific, generalized answers that do not involve the CONCEPT OF LOVE in any form are not my idea of a great read on saving a marriage. I love the chapter on the woman's husband who was addicted to internet porn- "expert #1" says NO BIG DEAL. IT'S A MAN THING. (Head's up: real MEN who are committed to their wives DO NOT tempt themselves with internet porn. It is nothing but a sick, perverted way to betray your wives. "expert #2" says IT'S REALLY OK, AS LONG AS IT DOESN'T BEGIN TO AFFECT HIS PERFORMANCE AT WORK.

Then there was another chapter on sexual problems in the bedroom, which advised couples to "visit a swingers club". Please excuse me while I go and throw up.

If you believe in the real L-O-V-E thing, this book will make you want to put a gun to your head. Don't waste your time...or your money.

Sherry Amatenstein has gathered the wisdom and insights of fifty accomplished therapists here in this book with one goal in mind: to help us all improve and grow that one committed relationship in our lives that means the world to us.

Sherry shows us that there are no issues so big that you cannot overcome them if you are both committed to working through the problem. She also provides guidance and support for those "small" problems that will torpedo any relationship if they are not discussed and dealt with!

In this high-pressure, 21st Century world where the "Ozzie and Harriet" model of domestic bliss and ignorance has been turned inside out - and most of us are discovering that 'Love conquers all" only with a lot of hard work - "The Complete Marriage Counselor" is the owner's manual that should be issued with every marriage license!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating insights into dilemmas of married life January 25, 2010
This is a well-written, compulsively readable and very useful book. Who doesn't want to hear what "the experts" have to say on the kinds of topics that affect the majority of couples who are married or cohabitating? As a psychotherapist and marriage counselor who has been happily married for almost 18 years, I found the questions and answers very illuminating and thought provoking. It's obvious that the therapists who were interviewed for the book have years of experience working with couples, and that they are dealing with "real world" situations (in-laws, money, poor communication)which can cause difficulties in even the happiest of relationships. I also liked seeing that different experts might address the same topic in different ways, showing that there's not always a "right" or "wrong" way to deal with problematic issues. I will definitely recommend this book to my patients!

5.0 out of 5 stars You don't have to be married February 21, 2010
The Complete Marriage Counselor is really written for everyone whether you are married, in a relationship, dating or single. It's one of those great books that you can pick up at any time, flip through and find some very sound and reasonable advise from many of the countries top couples therapists. Ms. Amenastein has just brought it all together in a concise and non threatening way, especially for men. If you're single, the advise helps you recognize who you are in relationships and become better at them. I've recommended this book to a couple of married friends and they can't wait to get their hands on it!!
Thank you Ms. Amenastein for such an insightful look at common issues that plague us all!!
