It's hard to give these two enough praise for the Omaha series -- it's a set of books that makes you stand up and take notice, because despite the cartooniness and the funny-animal format, and even the up-front graphic sex, these are characters that have real lives and real problems and who have to work through their stuff in order to work with each other.
So you're not looking at the cardboard cutouts seen in so many books, nor at the sex-crazed stereotypes of so many others -- rather these present an honest look at sex and morality and depression and confusion and love.
One day, when the schools are presenting their watered-down sperm-and-egg routine, I hope to be able to hand these books to whatever kids I have and offer to talk with them about all of the issues and stuff it brings up. I can't think of a better education. It's just too bad schools don't have the guts for it.

The resurrection of the Omaha the Cat Dancer series is a dream come true for me. It is sad to think that the passing away of Kate Worley has marred its reappearance, but she had entrusted her husband with her notes, and he is working closely with Reed Waller to finally finish this epic story. I can't wait for the finale.

If you haven't seen Omaha, the series is hard to describe. The long story arc moves around a handful of major characters, their lives, and their loves. That includes some real grownup loving, so this definitely isn't for the kiddies, despite the anthropomorphized menagerie that makes it up. The part that's hard to describe is its appeal, why these characters grow on me the way they do, but they certainly do.

In this sequence, Omaha splits for a while, the investigation into Bonner's death gets close to home, and we find yet another with good reason to dance on his grave. The other characters's lives advance, too. Nothing thrilling, but it's a warm and affectionate tone makes it all worth while.

As with a soap opera, it's hard to jump into the middle - the characters' back-story matters too much. So go back, start with vol. 1, and work your way here.

An ongoing series that has a following. I now have all eight (8) volumes which completes the collection. I've enjoyed the new content that was added to the stories.
