I have enjoyed following the complete review website for years. I bought this book both because I was interested in the background and history of the site, and as a way of giving back to its author. I would recommend the book to everyone that might approach it from a similar perspective. It provides a good overview of the site's history, and even if I did not always agree with Mr. Orthofer in the more philosophical chapter "On Reviewing", his thoughts and opinions made for an interesting read.

Unfortunately, the Kindle edition has three severe problems: First, the 200+ footnotes are overly disruptive. Unlike other Kindle books, this one did not allow me to jump to the footnote text and back. Even worse, the regular text was interspersed with blocks of footnotes, every couple of pages, and the footnote text was displayed in gray rather than black. Apart from these technical imperfections, in my humble opinion, at least one third of the footnotes could either be integrated into the text or left out altogether. Second, the table of contents did not work properly (e.g., trying to jump to some of the included reviews always took me to the first one), and there was no way to skip to the next review. Third (and worst of all), the text itself read like an unfinished draft, with half-finished or ungrammatical sentences in numerous places. Since I do not own the paperback version, I cannot tell if it is equally affected by this latter problem.

I have been waiting for this a long time and feel grateful that Mr. Orthofer has made this available. His reviews are thoughtful and his thoughts on reviewing are very interesting. Please buy this and go to the website and read the book!
