Product Description

Amazon.com

Though variously rooted in hip-hop, rave and dance clubs sensibilities, the art of mixology has evolved into a potent staple of contemporary pop music. That mainstreaming reached a new zenith with the release of the first installment of Verve Remixed in 2002 and continued to expand via two subsequent collections of eclectic jazz/r&b-rooted remixes that found a growing, enthusiasitc audience at public radio and other adult-oriented radio outlets. This set compiles those three savory, largely down-tempo anthologies of jazz-dj fusion, from the reworked takes on classic vocalists like Fitzgerald, Vaughn and Holiday that dominated the first set to the follow-up editions’ more expansive palette, rounding it out with a bonus disc of previously unreleased session outtakes (including Raw Deal’s playful reworking of Ramsey Lewis’ "1-2-3" and Cal Tjader’s "Los Banditos" in an electro-dizzy revamp by Michael Reinboth) and extended mixes of others. Also included on that disc are videos for "Is You Is, Or Is You Ain’t My Baby" by Rae&Christian/Dinah Washington, Felix Da Housecat’s slinky house take on Nina Simone’s "Sinnerman" and Sarah Vaughn’s "Fever" as retooled by Adam Freeland. A groove-savvy collection whose compelling mash-ups of history and fashion succeed in fusing some disparate audiences as well. --Jerry McCulley

I *LOVE* this box set and it's a great deal for anyone who does not already own a couple of the discs. This series represents a beautiful synthesis of two great kinds of music: jazz that ranges from straight to swing to funky, and electronic music ranging from ambient to hip hop to IDM.

The "bonus" disc is pretty much a waste and it will not be leaving the box again for a while in my house. In other words, if you already have all three, don't bother buying this set.

As the name suggested, this complete version consists of the Verve remixed series:- 1, 2 and 3. In addition, there is one extra disc featuring remixes and enhanced materials not found elsewhere (exclusively for this package). These 3 disc consist of good dance music (ambient, house, techno, trance, trip, just to name a few). Give it a few spins and you will find yourself glue to it. I can't help wondering if Verve Records is still coming out with new CDs in this series. Last but not the least, I think that this is a 'value for money' package and for those of you who like good dance remixes should not miss this edition.

Oh, how I love the Verve remix albums. As did many, I actually purchased Verve Remixed 1, 2, and 3 separately but am thrilled to see that they can now all be had together, with a bonus disk to boot. Curse those evil geniuses at Verve! I can see that I'll be donating my individual Verve Remixed CDs to friends and will be picking up this master collection for myself. $30 well spent in my opinion.

This is such an amazing collection of music. If you are an electronic enthusiast looking to get a little culture injected into your daily listening, then this collection is most certainly for you. Who knew that modern day electronica artists and jazz legends would prove to be so perfectly matched? Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Sarah Vaughan, Astrud Gilberto, Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie meet Postal Service, Bent, Brazilian Girls, Miguel Migs, Koop, Jaffa, Felix Da Housecat, Thievery Corporation, De-Phazz, Tricky and Carl Craig. The result? Some of the most amazing impress-your-friends dinner and house party music ever created.

So c'mon, do it. Click "add to cart". You will NOT be disappointed.

This is rated one of my top favorite remix albums eveerrr.... I'm phycho about these albums. It's genius, classic. The epitomy of what I personally am searching for in this genre of music. Haunting, mellow, rythyms and melodys that stay with you. relentless beats, that drill dreamlike into your mind. Very cool. transforming already beautiful old original songs into something more captured.

I'd heard all three cd's prior to purchasing them and knew that Amazon's price was worth it regardless of the 4th bonus cd. For the most part it's all good; however, the bonus disc, which I believe is simply slightly altered versions of the songs on the other three, is irrelevent and much less interesting.

As for the other three volumes, although there are a smattering of weaker tracks throughout, it was enjoyable enough that after three listens each, I had no reservations about shelling out hard-earned buckage on it.

This is a great collection of classic jazz remixed in a acid/chill out way, and it is the oerfect background music for those settings that need something but classic music.

I would buy it again.

Cheers

This is a great way to prepare yourself for a Jazz experience albeit these songs are leaning more towards, the Techno, and dance genre, still it is a valid collection of music. Those of you who are starting to get serious about Jazz but don't know where to start, start here then go after the originals or vice versa. The point I want to make is that, this is great music for that are new to Jazz's influence on the many other genre's of music. It is also great for those well versed in Jazz as a spin off to their favorites. AKA a fresh new spin on classic pieces. I have even heard a couple of the cuts in recent movies but I won't tell you which movies they are, that would be cheating. Suffice to say, yes it's worthy of being added to your musical collection. I first heard the Verve remixes while browings my local Library and have been hooked every since. So I bought my own copies, and I am glad I did it's cool music for the head, and a great collection to relax on.

I got this Box set because of the Nina Simone "feeling good" remix thinking if there is just 1 or 2 others that are this good it's a steal. I love this set so much I have to force myself to listen to each CD because when I pop one in, I never want to take it out.
