"...The Confident Woman may be a quick read, but this is certainly not a book that guarantees a quick fix for your self-esteem issues. To be completely honest, when I started it, I actually wondered a little whether such a short book could really even be all that helpful. And now that I've finished reading? My verdict is that The Confident Woman is absolutely a helpful book. I tend to be fairly picky about the self-help books that I pick up, since most of them end up falling well short of their purpose for me. Once in a while, though, I come a cross one, or one is brought to my attention, that shows a bit of promise, and this was one...

...I wouldn't say that the strategies Ordoñez advocates in this book are necessarily groundbreaking or revolutionary, as she does discuss a lot of commonly understood methods for boosting one's mood and self-esteem....

...Mostly, this book acts as a sort of guide, offering up what worked for Ordoñez herself, but with the disclaimer that just because it worked for her does not mean it is guaranteed to work the same way for everyone - she encourages you to adapt things that you learn to fit your own situation, so that you can better achieve whatever your goals may be....

...if you're looking for a quick and realistic pep talk, or maybe just a reminder, or maybe you just want a more accessible guideline for improving your own confidence and self-esteem, I would recommend giving The Confident Woman a try. Its simplicity was welcome and makes it stand out from so many others of its kind that use gimmicks or promises to lure you into buying. And although the book focuses on women, I think that at least most of the advice Ordoñez gives could very easily be adapted for men who might struggle with these issues as well."

Chilean born Chicago entrepreneur Carolina Ordoñez uses the above quote by Margaret Thatcher to open her book on guiding women how to become more confident, improve self-esteem and overcome fears. She bases her writing on personal experience: a child to woman journey of low self-esteem who suffered two major depression episodes and thoughts of suicide yet managed to overcome these barriers and become the highly successful woman she is today.

Ordoñez measures her advice in well-molded chapters: How To Get Mentors and Thrive Among Lions!, Get A Life: What Did I Learn From My Depression?, Where The Heck Is Happiness Anyway?, Hitting Rock Bottom and Bouncing Back, The Decision That Will Change Your Life Forever, How To Learn Faster, Leadership and Self‐Esteem, Special Self-‐Esteem Tips for Women, Creating Your Inner Circle: Keeping the Right People Close To Your Heart, What Do You Do Besides Your Work?, The Secret: To Keep Growing and Learning Your Whole Life, The Ultimate Sign of High Self-Esteem: Taking Care Of Your Body, The Recipe For Living Healthy and Happy , and finally, How To Stop the Self Sabotage and Learn To Choose.

This book is written especially for women by a woman who has climbed the ladder herself. But the information is so well grounded in general that men could just as easily benefit for the advice of guru Carolina Ordoñez. Grady Harp, July 13

5.0 out of 5 stars Change your outlook - Shine your Light August 4, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
If you want to change your outlook on life, be more fulfilled, be happy, start shining your light to the world and you don't have any idea where to begin - START with this book. Put your path in motion.

It's not very often I run into an author whose message speaks to me, not only to my intellect, but also to my soul. Carolina definitely does this and more. She writes as if she is that friend, teacher, or mentor (whomever) sitting right across from you telling a story. I felt like I was back in school, in a good way. I had my professor sitting right across from me telling a story. Sometimes repetitively because I REALLY needed to listen. Sometimes "off topic", and the story seems to wander a bit, but in reality you only think she is "off topic," and she'd always find a way to weave that story into meaning.

This book has many lessons in it, not only for women, for everyone. Of course there are some specifics that may only speak to the women of the world, but all lessons are beneficial for everyone to hear. Everyone, especially women, should be as proud of their souls as any other person.

I found myself wanting to make changes and felt an innate desire to live. Carolina lays out ideas and plans for the future and how to attain goals. My brain - is just lazy and I want to have more of a task list and items to do! Luckily for me, this author puts her contact information at the end of the book - So I CAN contact her for more guidance. I could also wait for the next book -- but I think I would be watching too much TV in the meantime -- So, I think I will write.

5.0 out of 5 stars The road to confidence and happiness July 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I really enjoyed reading Carolina's book and took several key points from it that we can all learn from -
It's important for a child to have a mentor, someone that goes in to bat for them and with them, especially when they feel isolated.
Carolina had a well developed sense of the importance of personal development at an early age, which I think you can pick up at any stage of life.
She was attracted to strong characters, which shows she had those qualities within herself and just needed inspiration to bring it out.
Her demonstrated ability to take events that happened in her life, and make meaning out of them that propel her forward in the future - she shows the ability to examine her own life and make meaning and then take learnings out of that that empower her.
On her journey through her childhood, Carolina discovered the gold in finding her own path in life, not what others prescribed for her. Her realisation to not allow external factors she had no influence on affect her decisions.

She used the lowest point in her life as a springboard to launch herself with passion and vigour into the life she has now.
The value of commitment to herself.
The importance of a support network.
The belief that she can make herself heard.
Advice on how to best put the past behind you and empower your own future.
Battling machismo and understanding value of women in relationships
Choosing your inner circle.
Looking after your vehicle (your body)

I found it was interesting that following her suicide attempt she spent a month in bed doing little more than knitting - knitting is a good occupation for a woman when she has fallen apart like that.
