Book Description

This is my journey from a broken workaholic to a happy and appreciated entrepreneur.

I was an officer in the Israeli Defence Forces (a.k.a IDF), and loved every second of it. I was a workaholic, had absolutely no time to eat, sleep or have a personal life and couldn't imagine having a different way of living.

Fortunately, I broke my back and simply couldn't work my 18 hours a day anymore. I was injured, handicapped and in constant pain. The army wasn't going to fire me and I couldn't resign. My life came to a dead end. However, it wasn't in my nature to give up.

I developed a method of my own and started working 5X less hours, got promoted twice and was home by lunch every day.

I was taking care of my health, doing my job and being appreciated for it - all thanks to this simple method I developed, and in less than an hour you will find out how I did it.

This book is not about bragging, nor is it about theory - I was simply put in a situation where I had no other choice and these are the actual steps I took.

I am incredibly lucky to have the support of my family and friends, and without it I would probably be in a wheel chair, writing a completely different book.

I chose to write this book in a free style, because I believe this is the only way to get the message across. In some parts of this book you may dislike me, or other characters due to that style of writing; Please bare in mind, that without those strict commanders, careless subordinates and insensitive corporate rules I would have never become the person I am today, and most certainly would never have had the chance to share this with you. I am grateful to each and every one of them.

Since this is a story that took place in the army, all names and terms were altered.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you don't think you can't, you can! October 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
In this book you will find a unique circumstance of solider survival. You will find a person forced, through a seemingly bizarre injury, to find a way to survive life within the IDF. Culturally from a different place than many of us, Julie describes the writing style as free style; this was actually brilliant as the no-holds barred style brings you into a soldiers life. Have you ever been a soldier? If not get prepared for a bumpy ride; military logic, and the necessity to develop her own method to administratively survive the workload is what you are about to experience. There were a few points at which I thought no f'n way, I'd fire her in a heart beat... then I reminded myself to take off my westerner civilian head - that I needed to be a 25 year old soldier in the IDF, a female soldier at that. Something I knew absolutely nothing about; from story or personal experience. We are simply talking about administrative survival, and doing what it takes to get the job done. It wasn't always Barbie pretty - but it was 'effective'.

Through-out her story Julie never believes that she can't. Indeed, there are many opportunities where she admits, that some days she did not know how to. But, she is constantly in the game, playing combinations until she proves to herself - that if you don't think you can't - You Can.

Read this book - you will find many parallels to your own circumstance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Authentic and Great Points October 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book had such a refreshing and authentic voice to it. The author explained how she went from 18+ hour workdays to 4 hour workdays incorporating skills. These skills and ideas are something that all of us can incorporate into our lives - especially our work lives. I can't wait to read the rest of the Corporate Games Series.

5.0 out of 5 stars When you stop lying you find the truth October 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
While reading this book I felt angry on Julie at first, how could she let herself work so hard and hurt her health (even when the doctor told her to rest she didn't listen), but then all my anger turned into amazement. Julie showed that with endless amount of will power and some logical thinking she could do whatever she wants, even what seems impossible.

After reading the book I kept on thinking for a few minutes, I found it eye opening. There's a lot to learn from Julie's life experience and the way she handled the problem life handed to her.
If you ever struggled with time management, you have something to learn from this book. I can't wait for the second book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rare no-nonsense honesty from a truly successful mind! November 8, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Absolutely LOVED Julie Sheranosher's book "The Corporate Games". I will definitely read the rest of the series too. I got this book on an extremely busy day and would you believe it? I managed to finish reading it because I could not stop doing so! The story-telling is compelling, honest and the tone is conversational and warm albeit no-nonsense and totally telling-it-as-it-is. Julie does not make any qualms about putting her own mistakes out on the table, her own silliness in making the wrong choices and her brilliant shift as she discovers the real way to move in the right direction to keep her health, save her sanity AND do a fantastic job at her position.

Beyond that, the very core of the book covers a concept about efficiency versus productivity that is simple in hindsight yet so brilliant, so smart, and so well-executed that it leaves me in awe. She is such a young mind for such an amazing discovery. I wish I had discovered these "games" and tactics - all these games you would feel totally fine about "playing" - there is nothing unethical or questionable about them, it's just about how you manage your time, relationships and influence ....

Quite simply put: I am beyond impressed and would give it a 10 star if Amazon let me. Highly recommend this short and fast read especially if you are overwhelmed or struggling with advancement at your job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short, but incredibly inspiring! October 31, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
As a fellow workaholic, the book really inspired me to change the way I manage my time. It is very neatly written, short and leads the reader directly to the point without wasting their time.

Julie gives us a very unique perspective on her own life and personal experience, telling us what drove her into the pit of constantly working 18 hours a day - and how she got out.

I think that this book can help everyone who feels that there are not enough hours in a day or that their boss could never ever be pleased... Julie got over that and more and gives incredibly good pointers on how to do your job more efficiently and get credited for it.

This book is really easy to read and yet, so packed with insight. Julie's openness and authenticity provides an immediate way to relate to what she tells. Instead of finding an all knowing, all powerful tutor, I met a smart and talented woman who made mistakes, paid dearly for them - and then went ahead to fix them. Not only that - Julie wants us all to stay away from similar pain, and has given much thought to make the things she learned accessible and easy to understand.
I loved the book, and it left me with a desire to learn more.
