Even the two main characters of the book seem just like cookie-cutter archetypes.
All told, a very imaginative first book to a very imaginative series, that I'd recommend to anyone who just wants something imaginative and fun to read.
Perhaps there is a decent book within this overlong one, but it got buried by indulgent editing and the author's failure to discipline himself.
