The desire to build a conscious machine lies at the heart of the human quest for knowledge. It was the original goal of Artificial Intelligence. However, this endeavor could not progress because definitions of consciousness, suitable for machine implementation, were not available. The Creation of a Conscious Machine removes this obstacle. It defines consciousness as clear and achievable specifications that are applicable to any system, human or mechanical. This opens the door to the implementation of conscious machines. It also sheds new light on human consciousness and on its links to our conditions of existence.
