Book Description

The Crimson Pact anthology series is based on the dark fantasy novella, "The Failed Crusade" by Patrick M. Tracy, available for free on thecrimsonpact.com or in Volume 1. This ground-breaking origin story features the heroes who made the Pact and followed the demons of the Rusted Vale into the far reaches of the multiverse.

If you enjoy Jim Butcher's Dresden Files; Terry Brooks' Running with Demons (Word and the Void) and Armageddon's Children (Genesis of Shannara Trilogy); Demon Moon in The Guardian Series by Meljean Brook, Larry Correia's Monster Hunter International, or Patricia Briggs When Demons Walk you will love the Crimson Pact series.

"Almost 30 years later The Crimson Pact supplants Clive Barker's Books of Blood series as the modern compendium of fantasy horror short stories.…Whether you buy these for yourself or someone else, any horror, suspense, or dark fiction fan should enjoy the collection." - Lance Roth at BlogCritics.org

"The demons are not your typical straight-from-Hell, pitchfork-tailed monstrosities, or (perhaps) even in any realistic sense of the term 'native' to Earth. No, the demons you will encounter in The Crimson Pact are rather more like H. P. Lovecraft's Great Old Ones - unknowable creatures from beyond the Void, waiting only their opportunity to invade helpless earths and rule them with devastation and despair." - Author Michael Collings

"I applaud those who brainstormed this, and I can hardly wait to read the Crimson Pact, Volume 2. If you haven't partaken of this little jewel, I encourage you to do so, but beware, what lies beneath a mortal's skin could be something marvelously demonic." - MKHorror.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Diverse and Interesting! April 11, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Based on reviews and word of mouth, I downloaded "The Crimson Pact" as part of my vacation reading. I was intrigued by the concept of a spark from one author lighting the fire of imagination of other writers. I was not disappointed.

What a fun book! Sound silly for an often grim, sometimes morbid, occassionally weird book? It's not. I never knew what would come next as I breezed through the book, devouring each story like tidbits from a buffet. I both hungered for the next story and dreaded the last page, knowing that I'd have to be sated with a single volume.

Many of the stories, especially "Stained with Nightmare Juice" by Mr. Bell and "Hidden Collection" by Sarah Kanning, feel like the beginning of something much bigger and I, for one, hope to see them expanded into novels or just more "episodes".

I highly recommend (and have recommonded to my friends, co-workers and family) this, hopefully, first anthology in the book's demon-infested multiverse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark and Cool Compilation March 30, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
It seems that the art of the short story in many regards is dead. I don't know if this can be attributed to video games, youTube, Facebook, or any other digital distraction. In picking up The Crimson Pact, I was glad to see that this art form still lives and breathes. The Crimson Pact is a compilation of horror/sci-fi/fantasy short stories that circle around a central theme, the release of an innumerable host of demons across thousands of worlds and planes and a pact to take them down, one by one. Although all stories don't tie directly into the theme, they all serve as support legs that hold up a cohesive platform. Most of the authors are unknown. Some are just getting their fledgling tales out into the world. But they all have one thing in common: quality. I found the quality, and entertainment I experienced reading The Crimson Pact well worth my time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Summer Read May 22, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
*Just for the sake of disclosure I am friends with the editor/author and one of the other authors*

In a market of multi volume epic adventures where I find myself waiting years in between books this was a refreshing series of stories contained into one volume. The Crimson Pact is an anthology based on the first story called "The Failed Crusade" written by Paul Genesse and Patrick Tracy. "The Failed Crusade" starts this series of adventures where demons have escaped into the void giving them access to the multi-verse. Personally I think this was one of my favorite stories in the anthology. The characters were well written and I found many of traits exhibited by General Oster, ones which I think more leaders should emulate.

By using this initial story as a sort of spring board the following short stories or flash fiction contained within the anthology all became linked in one form or another by the Crimson Pact. This pact could be used at the discretion of the individual author which I thought was a great idea, and was the only real theme throughout the anthology which had stories ranging from Sci-Fi, Steampunk, Horror, Urban Fantasy plus several others.

As far as the stories in this anthology my favorites included "The Failed Crusade", "Solitary Life", "To Duty Sworn", "Inquest", "Monsters under the Bed", "Brotherhood: Fall of New York", and "Of the Breaking Stars". Overall I think this anthology was a success with the exception of one story which had an interesting premise; however I do not feel the amount of foul language was justified in getting the point of the story across especially considering the length of the story. I look forward to the following volumes especially to see where some of the stories from this first volume go from here.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read! April 26, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I was very excited to read this anthology, which had come highly recommended to me, and I was not disappointed. I love the concept of a multi-verse and the opportunity this gives authors to take a concept and be so creative. I also love anthologies for the variety you can get out of one book, still keeping that similar thread. Stylisticaly, the tone of this book is very dark, but even for those who prefer a lighter read there are stories that will please. My favorites are "Monsters Under the Bed" by Patrick Tomlinson, "Hidden Collection" by Sarah Kanning, and "Solitary Life" by Donald Bingle. This is a great choice and a TON of bang for your buck!

Of course I speak of the story, "Monsters under the Bed." This story is an enjoyable romp through a dark world of demons. I truly enjoyed this story by the creative author Patrick Tomlinson! 5.0 out of 5 stars Bring on the Demons! October 3, 2011
By Michael
Format:Kindle Edition
It's a standard PR/Marketing ploy for an announcer to declaim in a stentorian voice that a certain product offers "SOMETHING FOR EVERYTHING!" In the case of Paul Genesse's anthology of short stories and flash fiction, The Crimson Pact, Volume 1, the claim would be true...as long as the `everyone' involved has an unquenchable interest in things demonic. Please note, however, that in this case, the demons are (probably) not your typical straight-from-Hell, pitchfork-tailed monstrosities, or (perhaps) even in any realistic sense of the term `native' to Earth. No, the demons you will encounter in The Crimson Pact are rather more like H. P. Lovecraft's Great Old Ones--unknowable creatures from beyond the Void, waiting only their opportunity to invade helpless earths and rule them with devastation and despair.

The introductory tale clarifies the essential situation. In an attempt at destroying demonic invaders, great armies are gathered and a cataclysmic battle is fought, with victory--albeit at a horrendous price--finally going to the human forces. Or so they think. Because, as in all things moral and just, evil often has the power to subvert and overcome, even at the moment of triumph. In "The Failed Crusade," by editor Paul Genesse and Patrick M. Tracy, we discover that precisely this has occurred--that ostensible victory is in fact crushing defeat, as the hordes of demons abruptly withdraw and, siphoning the vast power of death and suffering and pain concomitant with the battle, break through the barriers that separate worlds, systems, dimensions, and universes.

Thus the stage is set for the fifteen short stories and eleven flash fiction stories that make up the collection...
