Biography

Background: The aptly-named Cinematic Orchestra (TCO) were formed by J. Swinscoe back in 1999. At the time Jay was still an employee at Ninja Tune in South London, where he was responsible for export sales at the long-standing independent record label. Swinscoe arrived at London Bridge from Scotland via Yorkshire and Cardiff with a background playing bass and guitar in bands and DJing, as well ... Read more in Amazon's Cinematic Orchestra Store

Editorial Reviews

The Crimson Wing: Mystery of the Flamingos is a new French documentary film that was created by Disney (Disneynature). The film documents the life cycle of flamingos and was filmed in Northern Tanzania.... The nice thing about this film is the original score brought to you by The Cinematic Orchestra with help from The London Metropolitan Orchestra.

The Cinematic Orchestra is a U.K.-based jazz and electronic outfit, created in the late 1990s by Jason Swinscoe, which records on the Ninja Tune independent record label.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Beautiful January 11, 2011
By John F.
Format:Audio CD
This soundtrack is beautiful. Just beautiful. I am an avid movie orchestral soundtrack guy, and this is one of the best I have ever heard. Like mostly everyone else, I discovered it from the Armani commercial. Any time the commercial would come on TV, I was captivated. I was hoping the rest of the soundtrack would be just as amazing, and I was not let down by any means. Every single track tells a story and is just amazing. I highly, highly, recommend this to everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you didn't love flamingos before this album.... September 27, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Sometimes it takes an expensive commercial to help us find music that we wish we had found before. One of the most moving and expressive pieces of music on the market today. The opening title grabs you in, the second piece (Arrival of the Birds) brings you to your knees clutching the kleenex box to your chest and the music doesn't let you go for the rest of the score. I haven't been able to see the movie this soundtrack accompanied but I can only imagine the music along with the movie theme would reduce me to a puddle of tears and snot.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a beauty May 9, 2011
By I P
Format:Audio CD
This soundtrack evokes so many emotions. Now, I haven't seen the movie yet but, but thanks to the music I feel like I already have.

Transformation must be my favorite. It is full of beauty and hope. When I listen to it, I believe again and feel like I become stronger.

5.0 out of 5 stars Russian video sold me on this instrumental June 6, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
A few weeks back there was a Russian video posted on the net; it depicted various scenes of friendship, courtesy, or whatever that were all positive; it was taken from a car video camera (in Russia most vehicles have them because of insurance fraud); anyway, the guy who posted the videos played this music in the background. This is a full orchestra type sound, rich, deep, and very full. If you like elevator music, you probably will like this. I wouldn't compare it to Enya as she sings in her pieces in places, and this is totally instrumental, but somehow I sense a distant connection (all in my mind?). Anyway I really enjoy this music. (and yes, this is really music, unlike some of the noise that passes for music today, my opinion)

5.0 out of 5 stars It transports me December 26, 2012
Format:Audio CD
I first heard a selection of this recording online and it - The Arrival of the Birds- took my bteath away. It made me want to hear more...and more and more. You will not be disappointed in The Crimson Wing. I find it very relaxing at the end of a day. It transports me to a more beautiful world...tugs tears from my eyes while lifting my heart. I will be reviewing the other works of The Cinematic Orchestra. This disc is extraordinary.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Crimson Wing: Mystery of the Flamingos-Soundtract January 9, 2014
By MsKris
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I really love the Crimson Wing sound tract. The music is so beautiful that it is hard not to cry when I listen to it.
I also bought the Cinematic Orchestra's Live at the Royal Albert Hall CD but I didn't really like it. It was nothing like The Crimson Wing CD. This Orchestra can really play beautiful music when they play the right music. I hope they will make more CD's like the Crimson Wing in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Cannot Get Enough of this Music February 16, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I received my CD today. I had to get it from the UK as you cannot get it on iTunes.
Was that worth it? YES. As soon as it started to play I felt overwhelmed by an intrepid beauty that somehow leads me to knowing more about myself, my own worth and the honor that must be felt for everything around me. As I look outside my window, sparrows have become whispers from God, as their antics are recognized to be that of all creatures that fly. Who knew that flamingos would become so important to me? In the past I only thought of them as pink decorations on lawns in Florida or zoo creatures. I see them differently now after buying the DVD of the documentary, which in turn caused me to buy the CD. I understand the gift of sadness, the pleasure of the simple and the fight to survive much more clearly now. The Cinematic Orchestra has brought me to this meditative place and yet the picture is so much fuller than that, it is beauty that cannot be dismissed or ever forgotten. Crimson Wings is a vision, a sound of the past and future. I cannot think of a more profound pleasure.
