THE OUTSIDERS-WITH GIANT MONSTERS AND TRANSFORMING ROBOTS!

You know that book about the poor kids and the rich assholes who mess with them all the time? The one where the main poor kid (C. Thomas Howell) and his best friend save those kids from a fire, and then the best friend (Ralph Macchio) dies and croaks out, "Stay gold, Pony Boy." And theres that rich girl, Cherry, who totally leads Pony Boy on the whole time? This is that! But with giant monsters and robots fighting in the rumbles. And its in The Hamptons. In a dystopian future. Its crazy!

Giant monster fights, touching love with sexbots and stinky women, extreme body modification, and Boogers, the guy whos sorta like Pony Boy, but gross and perverted-its all right here.

STAY GOLD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like a birthday party in my bathroom January 13, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Couldn't wait for another Justin Grimbol novel to come out after reading his first release, Drinking Until Morning. Creative and bizarre in all the right ways, Grimbol's The Crud Masters is an interesting spin off the high school classic The Outsiders, only better. I'd recommend picking up a copy of this book along with his first. Can't wait to read another.

Justin Grimbol's The Crud Masters is a Bizarro spin on S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders.
And man, what a spin! How Grimbol pulled this off, I don't know...I just don't know. Who goes to write one day and decides to take The Outsiders and do this? Girls named Clitty, PussyBear, Soda Can the blue sex-bot who uses his seed as a weapon! Kaiju showdowns between a Lovecraftian Beast and a Transformer.

Justin Grimbol is a Bizarro Ninja and this book is a good example of his approach.

Boogers is our Pony Boy. Throughout the tale, Boogers learns about life, love, sex, and death--essential elements in any good novel, but told in a straightforward, brash style that makes Boogers watching his best friend being eaten by a giant Dagoon monster, hysterical.

There is class warfare going on here, as The Crud Masters representing the poor kids, must rumble with NOLA, representing the rich kids. NOLA fires the first shot by sicking a Transformer on PussyBear--a woman modified to look like a bear--I won't give away too much but the rumble is pretty cool. Grimbol doesn't shy away from a sleazy sex scene either. There is no sweet kiss between Pony Boy and his girl on the wrong side of the tracks, Cherry. No...not at all! Our Cherry likes to get down! I'll leave it at that.

Who noticed the Lovecraft? Dagoon? Gibbous Beach?

The Crud Masters was pure fun from start to finish. I'm excited to see what Justin Grimbol has coming in the future.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun March 9, 2012
By V. Cano
Format:Paperback
A classic underdog story, this book was a fun read.
I really enjoyed the world building in this book. It was unique, yet familiar. I definitely did not expect a kind of Hamptons resort to be populated with monsters, so it was definitely a surprise, even having a basic knowledge of what the book would be about. The characters are amusing in their own right. You have a woman who has paid to look like a bear, you have cyborgs, sea creatures, and even a Transformer. All kinds of quirky creatures to catch your attention. Boogers is hilarious, though, stealing every scene he was in.
The novella is fast paced and very fun. There were many moments where I found myself laughing out loud, so it's not hard to recommend the book to all of you who love a bit of quirkiness with your fiction. It's definitely a book to notice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Juvenile Deliquency is Fun! January 27, 2012
Format:Paperback
Juvenile delinquency is fun. But if you read S.E Hinton or watch most movies about juvenile delinquency, it looks like a bad lifestyle choice. Where are the stories for those of us who might have had friends that did not stay on the straight-and-narrow? Where are the stories about how gang rumbles sound like a lot of fun? Justin Grimbol's The Crud Masters fills this niche with Bizarro delinquent fun. Transformers, bears with oversized breasts and a giant monster all play prominent roles in this ode to growing up on the wrong side of the tracks. Grimbol has some growing to do as a prose stylist and the story could have done with fewer diversions, but you'll have fun with The Crud Masters and it will remind you of all the shameful shameful things you did when you were a young hooligan growing up in a dirty world.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Outsiders, As Written By A Total Pervoid March 25, 2013
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
So you already know this is basically a tribute to the Outsiders, except with giant monsters and giant robots. You may not know that this is super weirdly perverted: horny bear mutants, sex robots, booger kisses and more. That's the icing on the cake.

4.0 out of 5 stars A gross out monster mash January 1, 2013
Format:Paperback
I am also among the group that has had no contact with The Outsiders. I really enjoyed this book anyway!
It read like a great B-movie, with the right blend of characters, scenery, and monster penis.
I hope Justin Grimbol writes another book soon, because I'd like to find out what else hides in his messed up mind.
If you've read The Outsiders, its a great companion piece (so says a friend), and if not, its a great quick read anyway!

5.0 out of 5 stars Teenage Monster Time November 12, 2012
Format:Paperback
I was originally going to subtract a star from my rating for the appalling lack of Ralph Macchio, but then I came to my senses after a second read through. Sure there were no 80's icons in it, but the characters in this book were stranger and more interesting then anything Hollywood could churn out. Plus freakin' monsters AND Transformers, come on, pure gold.
Post apocalyptic settings and monster mayhem aside Grimbol has created a truly unique portrait of teenage culture. It shows that even in the dystopian future teens will be doing stupid stuff, fighting, and having lots of awkward sex with one another.
This is a book that nods to it influences (Outsiders/Japanese Monster Movies) but still manages to exist in a world all its own.
Great stuff, look forward to more from this Author.
