A scorching debut by this Swedish outfit. The main ingredients in the garage-tinted output by this band seems to be The Doors and Steppenwolf - most of their tunes comes across as a bastard child of these bands - on speed. Hard hitting, driving tunes filled with hooks, grooves and busy soundscapes fills up this production from start to finish; a dual set of guitars and an asthmatic Hammond as a very solid foundation for the John Kay-inspired belting by frontman Niklas Gustafsson. Percussions Santana style are added in on select sequences, and passages more of an ealry Deep Purple or Uriah heep vein pop up on occasion as well. As a surprise at the end, the close to 9 minute closing track transports us to rather different territories; with opening and closing passages pretty similar to Deep Purple Mark I in sound enveloping a lenghty and spacey atmospheric segment that sound like something Eloy could have created right around their Inside album. It's a good album, and well worth investigating. |
