More About the Author

David Lubar has written more than thirty books for teens and young readers. His novels, including Hidden Talents and Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie, are on reading lists across the country, saving countless students from a close encounter with Madam Bovary. His novel, Dunk, won Pennsylvania's Young Adult Book Award and was used by the New Jersey Library Association for their One Book New Jersey program. His Weenies short story collections have sold more than two million copies. He had several books come out this year, including Hyde and Shriek, and Extremities: Stories of Death, Murder, and Revenge (He's actually a much nicer person than these titles would indicate.) He is a popular speaker at schools and conferences around the country. He also designed and programmed many video games in an earlier eight-bit life, including Home Alone and Frogger 2. In his spare time, he takes naps on the couch. He grew up in New Jersey, went to Rutgers, and now lives in Nazareth, PA with one awesome female and various annoying felines. This series was recommended to me by another Twilight Zone fan. At first, I was reluctant to buy these children books. But Lubar is a great short story teller who has the ability to appeal to young and old alike-what a talent. He builds upon childhood fears that never really seem to go away even though the older we get the more buried they become. The sense of humor will also appeal to adult readers. I'm going to start reading these to my kids but first I want to read all of them myself (very selfish) and then I will share. There are some clasic tales here like the creepy "Murgopana", and "Inquire Within". "The Soda Fountain" is a haunting story that stayed with me for days. "Fat Face" reminds of the days when I found it difficult to keep my hands out of Dorito bags and Twinkies were my best friend comforting me like pillows. I was a "Fat Face" growing up and this story reminds me of my trials. Lubar is a great writer! I can't wait to read these again when I read them out loud to my kids.

I think the age level for this book should be much higher. It totally freaked out my 9 year old. In fact, I found it uncomfortably creepy and I'm an adult. Stories about children choking on hot dogs and not getting out of "heaven" unless they hit a homerun in an otherwise endless baseball game, predators on the internet luring children to sneak out of their homes at night to meet them, children "mind-melded" into eating live bugs in order to have friends, ...

My child brought this book home from the school library. I strongly suggest parents think twice before allowing their child to read this.

This is a great collection of quality stories just as you would expect from David Lubar. Each one is short but well written and has a delicious creepy twist in the tail.

This book is good but has a little bit ofa dark/gross tone to it. I thought these books were supposed to be funny! Nope not funny at all! I think David Lubar should have stopped after Invasion of the Road Weenies, because seriously I'm 13 and these grossed me out. I could not sleep for four or five days after reading this!

My boys 8 and 10y/o LOVE these stories. They go along innocently enough until you reach a mind boggling twist at the end. I have even caught my normally 'I don't want to sit still long enough to read' 10y/o snuggled in his bed in the middle of the day reading these stories. As the title states, these are 'warped and creepy tales' and SO fun to read!

Wonderful for kids who would like scary stories or odd stories. BUY THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!! The stories are not really that scary... unless you dont like ghosts, Genies that could kill you if you take the protceting gem off, and most imporantly birds that poop in the park.

This whole series is amazing. As mentioned in my title, it is a cross between Twilight Zone and Stephen King for kids. Definitely read it before letting your kids read it so you can decide if it will keep your kids up at night. They're great short stories for adults.

These were a little to scary for my 9 year old. He likes to listen to them before bed, and this one he just didn't want me to play for him. I did give it a four star though, because I do think it was a good book, but maybe just for an older boy/girl?
