Book Description

Seventeen-year-old Bee Hendrick's life took a sharp turn for the worse when her father lured her to a mysterious mansion outside town to rid his family of a magical debt. Now she's trapped inside an enchanted house with rooms that rearrange themselves at random, servants whose bodies are slowly morphing out of existence...and then there's Will, who is simultaneously the hottest and most frustrating guy she’s ever met.

At first Bee's only goal is to smash open a window and escape, but there’s just one problem... No one can leave until the spell is lifted, so if she wants to be free she must first break the curse cast over the house and its inhabitants. And she doesn't have the slightest idea how to do that.

Will wants nothing to do with Bee or her help, but he's running out of options. Time is almost up.

They must work together to break the curse, or they'll be prisoners forever.

**EXCERPT**

He raked his gaze over me once. I felt like a package that had come in the mail, one in which the contents had turned out to be a slight disappointment.

“So you’re the Curse Girl,” he said finally, after a long pause. “The words of the curse spoke about a girl called Beauty, but I thought the line meant a beautiful girl.”

Approximately 40,000 words in length.

5.0 out of 5 stars You gotta love a Beast. February 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
In some other Beauty and the Beast retellings the Beast is sweet and nice making you wonder how he got cursed in the first place. Even though the beast in this version looks like a man most of the time she still manages to make him quite beastly at the beginning. I also like the modern day element. This is a very well written story. You should read it. (Yes I'm talking to you...YES YOU! What are you waiting for?)

I am going to go on to read her other stories. (And isn't that the best compliment you can give?)

2.0 out of 5 stars REALLY Young Adult December 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I like YA fiction. I really do, but this felt very much like it was written by a YA. : / The main character was immature, the surprise plot twist was really not a surprise, and the ending was VERY pre-teen. If you're bored out of your mind and need something to occupy your time, then by all means go for it. If you are looking for actual entertainment, then I suggest you keep browsing.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun reimagining of a classic tale. May 17, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This delightful novella starts when a sassy young Beauty is traded by her father to a Beast of a boy. She and the boy have to work to break a curse or they'll be stuck together forever. The riddle that is their only clue is no help and time is running out.

"The Curse Girl" is full of interesting characters and great dialogue. If you like witty banter and lively people you'll enjoy this book. However it is light on action so if you're looking for something a little more visceral or swashbuckling it might come up short.

It pulls inspiration from the classic Beauty and Beast, telling it in modern day. It maintains a nice tension between whimsy and drama, breezing along quickly for most of the story but landing nicely on it's dramatic moments.

If you like fairy tale retellings you will love this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marian Needs Meds January 20, 2013

Seriously, we are talking psycho crazy witch lady. Demented. Deranged. Nutter. And, she has some really good lines.

While this loony witch doesn't have a lot of "screen" time, her presence is felt throughout this nifty little book.

Belle...I mean, Beauty (freaking guest song is in my head now...must.not.kill.self.) has amazing snarky lines, and Will isn't too far behind her. These two despise each other at first. So naturally they're meant to live happily ever after (oh come on, anyone who doesn't live in a subway tunnel...sorry Vincent...knows how this story turns out, and if you have been living in a whole in the ground, you probably deserve to see the movie first...song is in head again...aaaaaargh!)

I really liked that the "Beast" was innocent this time - he didn't deserve the curse, he just kind of got it by accident. So he didn't have to make amends for anything. And seriously, if you were trapped in a house with talking walls and rooms that roam and a rose bush for a sister for 90 years, you might be in a bad mood, too.

Father? Evil. Should be beaten and fed to beast - he can make an exception to the "no eating humans" rule once.

Step-Mom? Hope it turns out OK for her (well that's a switch). She needs a new husband. He might offer her up as a sacrifice next.

Drew? Schmuck!

Violet? Well, we never actually meet you, so we hope you get some "stage" time if there's a sequel. Or a re-boot.

Seriously, a really cool take on Beauty and the Beast. One afternoon was all it took.

But honestly - what the heck does the cover have to do with the

I've seen episodes of "my little pony: friendship is magic" that had greater character development and plot. It's young adult, yes, but that should not excuse a writer from implementing her basic craft. The protagonist is obnoxious with few redeeming qualities. The world building was the best feature of the book but that was somewhat lackluster since she's only really building a magic house. There are better books that retell this tale.

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring! May 19, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I loved Scarlet and Cinder. They were an original take on an old story. They were creative and engaging. This book is not original at all. I was very disappointed in it. Read it to the end thinking it might pick up, but it didn't. I won't read anymore fairy tale based stories by this author.

This is actually a 4.5 hearts. I just love, love, love Beauty and the Beast. Then I find this retelling of it through a book blog and I knew I just had to have it! I'm so glad I put it on my Christmas list! *squeal* :D Thank you Daddy! <3

In the beginning you are plunged into the Beast's world when Bee's dad dropped her off. Seriously can't believe this dude, ugh, hate (okay, maybe not hate but I seriously dislike) this guy >_<. Haha, you'll find out why later on in the book. Anyways, I'm so glad that it started this way. Since it's a short book it's full of action and it gets straight to the point, making this all the more enjoyable!

My oh my, the world Mrs. Ellison has created for us is one magical ride. The ever room changing cursed house where you close a door but when you open it again you'll get a different room than before, the self-ignited candles (the moment you take hold of it, it lights up. Lumiere anyone!), and the mirror you can fall into just to get to the Fey Lands. These are just the few things that created such an amazing world that brought forth the love I have for Beauty and the Beast, the Disney movie. <3

I feel like all the unique and different characters all stood out in their own way and that doesn't happen much in books. And because of this, I feel like none fell flat or molded together as it was easy to tell them apart from one other. Will was a beast but as time goes by you'll see he was just really at the wrong place at the wrong time, a guy who really isn't a beast. Bee, she's tough but some might see her as a baby, however, if your father just dropped you off at a strangers house for his own good then you too would be at the brink of tears. These two and their bickering moments made this story all the more true!
