Editorial Reviews

Review

"DIY Bride is a classy, sassy, oh-so-fun crafty approach to livening up your big wedding day. Khris Cochran serves up a delectable tray of clever ideas that are frosted with style and originality and proves that having a luxurious, signature wedding doesn't mean you have to empty your bank account. Just your glue gun!" -- Kathy Cano-Murillo, CraftyChica.com

Khris Cochran's The DIY Bride provides inspiration and projects for save-the-date cards, invitations, jewelry and accessories, ceremony decorations, programs, favors and more. Cochran, who founded the website DIYBride.com, also provides a cost comparison to show how much a similar item would cost if purchased in a store, allowing busy couples to decide whether it would be better to buy or make certain projects. A hair ornament for a flower girl, for example, costs about $5 to make but would cost about $40 to buy. The DIY Bride provides clear instructions and suggests whether a project could be completed by the couple themselves, with the help of the wedding party or with members of the family, offering clever ideas and the potential for fun invitation-building parties with friends."--Bookpage

"Khris Cochran, founder of DIYBride.com, helps send do-it-yourselfers down the aisle on the cheap with her new, illustrated book "The DIY Bride: 40 Fun Projects for Your Ultimate One-of-a-Kind Wedding" (Taunton, $19.95). The book offers step-by-step, budget-saving craft ideas for those planning to wed. --"Dayton Daily News "(Ohio)

The moment after a woman says yes to the BIG question, she is deluged by even more questions -- and all of them have to do with the wedding. Khris Cochran, founder of www.DIYbride.com and author of  The DIY Bride, has plenty of answers to brides' questions, especially brides who want a wedding that isn't like everyone else's, and one that doesn't cost a fortune. The DIY Bride is replete with cost comparison information; for example, custom-printed wedding invitations may cost as much as $2.50 each. Do-it-yourself invitations can cost as little as 35 cents. Directions for projects are detailed and well-illustrated. Tips and hints are sprinkled liberally throughout the book. An index and resource guide add to the user-friendliness of the book. 5.0 out of 5 stars Best DIY wedding book! (so far) May 12, 2008
By AMG
Format:Paperback
By the time we get married, my fiance and I will have been engaged for 3 years (longer than we've been dating)! We pushed the date back in order to save money to pay for this party. Had this book been available earlier, I would have gotten married sooner with all the money I would have saved! I've purchased other DIY wedding craft books, but this is by far the best! The projects are fun and hip unlike some other books that have projects that look like they are straight out of the 80's. Some of the best features of this book are (1) the resource guide in the back--it lists many different websites and stores where the materials can be purchased, (2) the money-saving clues for each project (it lists what the item would cost if you purchased it from a vendor as opposed to DIY--I love knowing that I'm saving money!), (3)skill level and time/manpower needed (it lists whether you can complete the project by yourself or if you should enlist the help of family members, maids, or fiance), (4) the step-by-step instructions with visual aides for those of us that need visual cues, and (5) the timeline in the front of the book lists when you should purchase materials needed by and what projects should be completed first. I definitely would recommend this book as I already plan to do several of the projects! GREAT BUY!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classy Crafts February 24, 2008
Format:Paperback
I am not much of a DIY person (I am not a fan of the "homemade look"), but the end result of the projects in this book definitely don't look homemade. I found the projects in this book to be easy, creative and classy. As a wedding planner, I have encouraged my clients to use this book when they want a high-end look at a low-end price. Great job!

There are several great ideas, but not many that I'd actually choose to do. It does have creative ways to DIY and save money, but am only choosing 1 project for my wedding.
