About the Author

Rivera Sun lives in an earthship in the high desert of New Mexico. She gets up before dawn (and the lizards) and starts her day by drinking pu'erh tea and baking bread in her outdoor adobe clay oven. Rivera has written eight theatrical plays, published two novels and two books of inspirational poetry, and written/performed many dance theater productions. Her work has received standing ovations from coast to coast and touched the hearts and souls of many. Rivera believes in being an embodiment of love-in-action in all that she does. A passionate participant in creating a just, sustainable, and peaceful world, she takes the responsibility of life seriously . . . and with a good dose of humor. Her novels focus on the social issues of our times, positing creative solutions as well as muckraking through the causes of suffering. "Life is the ultimate adventure!" Rivera says. Indeed, for Rivera Sun, it has been a non-stop wild ride from birth onward. She is a twin, grew up on an organic farm on the Canadian border of Maine, attended Bennington College in Vermont, headed to the west coast to pursue dance and theater, toured nationally with solo performance works, and now lives and writes in the desert of New Mexico. Rivera is easy to connect with on Facebook and Twitter, or through the Rising Sun Dance Theater website. She encourages her readers to reach out, write reviews, and share their favorite quotes with others.

A Poetic Writer's Statement by Rivera Sun

I collect tangible heroes
imperfect and lovable
from all times and all nations, races and creeds
with their adventure-plot-metaphors
that we, ourselves, live
to inspire all people
to lead boldly authentic, everyday lives
deeply connected to themselves
each other
and this earth.

I pair complexity to simplicity
fold panoramas into packages
challenge one voice to speak many.

I leave room for music,
dance,
and physicality.
embodying the teller
in mind, heart, and soul.

The kitchen becomes a stage
the classroom a theater
every human a storyteller.

The tales become common
discussed over tea,
simmered with dinner
written in letters
rippling. . .
into our lives.

What's not to like about a revolution powered by love? "When fear is used to control, love is how we rebel." Rivera Sun is an amazing author and activist. She's written another story for our times, one that is needed to help pave the way to creating a world that works for all. She inspires the rebel in me to boost my activism. Thank you Rivera for your brilliance and your inspiration!

In addition to inspiring me to want to take on the world, Rivera Sun once again reminds me of the snowball effect of doing more and more small acts of kindness whenever I can. My little pebbles cause bigger and bigger ripples every day...but The Dandelion Insurrection is a boulder thrown into the pond to spark a tidal wave of change of love and freedom and joy!

There aren't enough stars to pay homage to how amazing this book is, but since Amazon only allows me to give five stars, I'll have to settle for that. The Dandelion Insurrection is so much more than a book; it's a much needed gift that the author has lovingly presented to the world. After experiencing The Dandelion Insurrection, I knew that there would need to be changes made before the country unravels to the disturbing state that was described in this novel.

The relationships that are formed in this beautiful story are what give the reader hope. One hopes that in a country that's crushed by the government, people can still overcome adversity with love. The main theme of The Dandelion Insurrection is that love conquers all. Rivera Sun is a marvelous author whose love of writing is reflected in this masterpiece of a story. I wholeheartedly recommend The Dandelion Insurrection to anyone with a pulse!

It's not a spoiler to say that you will leave this book with a smile. Rivera Sun clearly loves to tell stories, and you have to also believe that she loves the people in her stories. Even when it's at its darkest, somehow there is a lightness and hope that never leaves the narrative. The people in Rivera's revolutionary world keep a firm hold on their humanity. They stand as role models for future revolutionaries. With a philosophical base in the tenets of non-violent resistance, the Dandelion Insurrection can be a revolutionary handbook.

Rivera Sun is an author in a league of her own. Her writing is like inspirational poetry in motion. Reading The Dandelion Insurrection is not an exercise in futility nor like steeping yourself in rhetoric. It’s more like steeping yourself in a healing herbal infusion of dandelion tea. It will move you to take non-violent actions towards the best world and love that we know in our hearts we can co-create. Reading Rivera’s words took me through every emotion our humanity bestows upon us. Her writing is a Feast of Love set forth for all who wish to partake in its immense Beauty and Teachings. Go ahead and join the Feast! Be an Evolutionary Revolutionary!

Be Kind. Be Connected. Be Unafraid! This is one of the main themes of the inspirational novel 'The Dandelion Insurrection'. Author Rivera Sun weaves together a beautiful tale of love and non-violent revolution with important themes that relate to what we are going through today. She eloquently gives us feasible solutions for our current challenges based on the foundation of hope, love and connection. She also poetically brings together the various cultural and economic groups of our society with a focus of working together for positive change. I highly recommend this book to everyone!

After I read the first 20'ish pages of The Dandelion Insurrection, I now have a new, favourite author - Rivera Sun! [John Irving - You are still right up there though!] The storyline is epic. The characters leave you longing to find courageous and loving souls like these [we forgive them for their human frailties]. My favourite though, is Rivera's writing. I hang on each descriptive passage - not yet wanting to move on to the next. It's poetic. Earthy - and you can feel the words in your 'bones'. It's about our need for change, but it is mainly a love story, on so many different levels. Life. Liberty. Love. If you are fearful, but need to stir your passion around what it means to be human on this planet at this time - right now - be brave and read The Dandelion Insurrection.

As I read this fine book, a voice of defeatism chanted such nuggets as, "Oh, yeah, like THAT would work." But as I continued, there was a shift. I decided that I could choose to believe The Dandelion Insurrection was possible, even considering all the "evidence" to the contrary. It is perhaps the first time in my life that I have experienced true Faith. I KNOW that everything in the world is slanted against this, but now I also BELIEVE that it's entirely possible for each one of us to be a voice for justice. I have read a great deal about non-violent political resistance; this book carried it to my heart. We owe a great debt to Rivera, Charlie, Zadie, and all the rest.
