Book Description

Alicia's always known she's different--that she can recognize the mischievous fae when they show up to "play" with the humans. Only now she's faced with one highly annoyed dark fae and she's certain he knows the truth about her. She can see him, which means her life is forfeit.

Add to that, his sister arrives, who wants to play, too. And their mother, the queen of the Denkar, will want Alicia's head, once she learns what Alicia can do.

And all because Alicia was attempting to rescue her friend, Cassie, on their beach excursion at South Padre Island, from the wicked fae. Now, Alicia has really gone and done it--and she's thinking she should have let the fae have his fun. Her friend's broken heart would be a lot easier to deal with, than Alicia losing her life.

But it is too late for regrets. As soon as she threw the soda at the dark fae's chest, she had declared war on the fae. And he is happy to take up the challenge.

I truly enjoyed the world of faeries that Ms. Spear created in The Dark Fae. The world building was well done, the character's strong and the story kept me coming back for more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun book to read on a rainy day! September 8, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really did not think that I would like this book. I was wanting to pass time and bought this on a whim. I enjoyed the story and the characters. They were fun and likable and the book was a quick and easy read. I wish there had been a bit more of a darker side to this story but overall I did enjoy it. I will read the rest in this series mainly because it is a nice change of pace when wanting a simple book to read. It is somewhat lighthearted and maybe a little predictable but that isn't always a bad thing, especially if the characters are as fun as these.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Quick Fun Read November 30, 2011
Format:Paperback
Anyone who knows me, knows I love all things Fae. Heck, I even tease my daughters, telling them that my flower bed is a secret faerie garden. When asked by Terry Spears to review The Dark Fae, I jumped at the chance, not to be disappointed. I adored that part of the story took place at South Padre Island...I am from Texas after all, plus I adore the ocean. Deveron and Alicia were fun as guides in their crazy world.

Alicia has always known she can see Fae but she has never known how deeply her sight is implanted in her. When she sees "the evil" dark fae flirting with her best friend, Alicia throws ice cold coke on him. I would have paid to see his face...especially since he is fae royalty. Deveron realizes immediately that there is something different about Alicia. Through several laugh provoking experiments, he figures out that she can see even invisible fae. It doesn't take him long to figure out she needs protection and he is the only one who can help; neither of them know exactly what they are getting themselves into.

While I definitely enjoyed this fantastical tale, I didn't find the world as intriguing as I would have liked. There was something missing that didn't pull me deep into the story.

The Dark Fae was a quick and fun story. I loved the interaction between Deveron, Alicia, and Ritasia (Deveron's sister). They were quirky, quick-witted, and exciting.

*I was given an e-book copy of The Dark Fae by Terry Spear in exchange for my honest review.

4.0 out of 5 stars Delightful May 14, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The Dark Fae
This is not a full length novel...maybe 150 pages. I read it in a day, but it was very good.

Alicia is able to see the dark fae and like the official synopsis says, she gets herself into a bind by revealing that she can see them...even when they should be invisible to her. She ends up going on quite the adventure through an entirely new world.

I loved all the different fae groups, the dark fae, the sphinx fae, the dragon fae, and more. They all have a symbol that represents their particular group and each group has key characteristics and I absolutely loved learning about them.

My only complaint is that at the end it appeared that the author was trying to wrap it up too quickly. I can't give examples because that would give away pieces of the story that are secret until later, but in the last few pages it just came together too quickly. I would however, love to read more about this world.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great read you can finish in one sitting! July 30, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
First of all, I was lucky enough to receive this book in a goodreads giveaway and was shocked and touched to find that Terry had not only signed my copy but wrote a personal message and attached a fae series bookmark along with my book. Thanks so much Terry!!!

Recently I have been obsessed with books dealing with fantasy and especially fae after reading Moning's Fever series and I was so excited to find this Fae series by Terry Spear. I was able to jump into her world of Fae royal houses and drama and fell in love with her couple, Alicia and Deveron. A couple that stumbled upon each other under the most unlikely circumstances but fell in love despite it all. I loved Alicia's strength after being thrown into a world of fae that wanted to kill her and I loooved the HOT method of fae travel!! If I were Alicia I wouldn't want to let go of Deveron!

I loved this short novel and couldn't put it down until I finished it!! The only disappointing part was that this story was so short! Terry Spear has gotten me hooked on the world of Fae and I can't wait to read more <3

4.0 out of 5 stars I liked it. The book start out great August 1, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I liked it. The book start out great. I find the main girl to be loveable. I don't quite like the ending though. I feel like the ending was rush. There isn't much character development especially with the mom, but that could be argue from person to person. But I do have my laughing moment especially her cliff climb. I feel that Alicia is a funny person. I can understand why he, the Denkar prince, fell in love with her. Overall, I liked this book.

The plot is terrific. But 20 pages of sex every 60 pages is redundant and quite unnecessary. It prolongs the books, but it is repetitive in it's nature. Leads me to feel the author is mimicking (or trying to) Shades of Gray. I think the series could have been more fully expanded without the use of repetitive "Man Conquers Woman with Violence" sex.

4.0 out of 5 stars Book One of The Dark Fae is a Winner! July 14, 2014
Format:Audible Audio Edition
The Dark Fae by Terry Spear
The author gifted me with this book in exchange for an honest review.

Two friends are on vacation on the lovely South Padre Island when one of them recognizes a dark fae. It’s not unusual for Alicia recognize the fae when they arrive to mingle with humans. Though she knows little about her personal history, she does know she’s part fae thanks to the father who abandoned her and her mother when Alicia was a toddler.

Terry Spear has created an array of fascinating and compelling characters with this first book of The Dark Fae series. I quickly identified with Alicia since I’m adopted and still have gaps in my own history. But Alicia’s past becomes more than idle questions when she’s transported to the treacherous fae world and must hide or face the wrath of those who would kill a human invading their world.

Terry created a wonderful fae world that pulls you into the story with ease. She has an array of characters and, like a good writer, often makes it difficult to know who friend or foe. If you enjoy fae stories like I do, you’ll love listening to or reading this one!

More About the Author

USA TODAY bestselling, and award-winning author and creator of award-winning teddy bears who have found homes all over the world including Australia, Switzerland, China, and Russia, and a retired officer of the US Army Reserves, I love to plant trees and flowers and if I could, I'd turn all the deserts green. Time travels are my favorite read, although I love to read most anything, and the Bourne series, Romancing the Stone, Sixth Sense, Legend, The Princess Bride, Stardust, Inkheart, LOTR, and tons of other movies are my favorites.

I love to research, to make urban fantasy worlds real, to bring a little of the paranormal into our world. Even in "Winning the Highlander's Heart" the heroine feels she is cursed and she has second sight. But I try to do it in a way that feels real, and not fantasized. :) Currently, I'm working on book 2 of the new jaguar shifter series, but still am working on wolf book number 12 and 13! So more hunky wolves to come! A SEAL in Wolf's Clothing has just released.
