Book Description

Facing adversity from every angle, Ebony experienced and witnessed things no child should. With a crack addicted mother, an incarcerated father and a devoutly Christian grandmother—whose disdain for her could not go unnoticed—there was never anyone to protect her. From sexual and physical abuse to rape and spousal abuse as an adult, Ebony has endured too much pain for far too many years. After narrowly escaping an abusive boyfriend, protecting her son and getting her life on track is her main priority. Will Ebony find happiness and the peace she deserves or will she remain a victim of her past?

Let Ebony take you on her journey to mental freedom.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

My experience writing this book was to say the least, emotional. The events that went on in Ebony's/the main characters life were realistic, heart breaking and raw. Ebony's story will tug at your heart strings as you'll want to protect this girl and slap some sense into her at the same time. It is a completely different read from my other work. The Darker the Berry the Deeper the Roots is drama filled and more realateble to a lot of readers. I wrote the book and I myself am deeply moved whenever I read it. I am proud of this debut and I hope to touch many lives from it.

All i can say is Wowwww! Ms. Queen Brown definately did her thing!! This story as told through the eyes of young Ebony,Took me on a ride that i never wanted to end! It told of the struggles of a young girl who had to navigate through life for the most part on her own, and was desperatly seeking the love and acceptance that always seemed to elude her. I mean i laughed, i cried and i sometimes wanted to throw my kindle! The hardships and abuse she had to endure were heartbreaking at times and i found myself wondering, how could anyone continue to go on after all of that?? I also found myself seriously wanting to hurt that damn Jonah! He was a hot mess and deserved what he had coming to him... Anyway woosah... Lol, so grab this book up ASAP but strap on your seatbelt! Its going to be a hell of a ride Through Ebony's world!! Keep doing you Ms. Queen, and i look forward to reading what you have cooked up for us next! Peace and Blessings <3

Wow, where do I begin? " The Darker The Berry, The Deeper The Roots" by Queen Brown explores various levels of sexual, physical, verbal, and emotional abuse. Join Ebony as she blossoms from a young girl into a woman and everything in between.
This book brought out a wide range of emotions in me. From laughing to crying to shock, it definitely kept me on my toes. It started off a little bit slow but quickly picked up. I was rooting for Ebony the entire time! Needless to say, this novel gets a 5 star from me! Can't wait to see what's nect from Author Queen Brown!

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVED THIS BOOK:) June 18, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
All I can say is wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved this book:) It started out a little slow, but it wasn't long before I was hooked. The story chronicles a young lady named E (Ebony)and her life experiences. She has a turbulent relationship with her family where she is treated horribly. As she grows up she goes through a few relationships with guys that I fell in love with. These relationships shaped her into a woman and from that she grew. There was love, betrayal, domestic violence, manipulation, family problems, resentment and triumph....all wrapped in one 5 star banger. I loved how this story was told the author made sure she told every detail and didn't leave a thing out about Ebony's life...I cant wait for part 2! If you haven't read this book all I can say is "WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR"....Please DO NOT sleep on this novel!

3.0 out of 5 stars The Cycle of Domestic Violence October 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The book, The Darker The Berry, The Deeper The Roots, by Queen Brown, focuses on main character Ebony who is a victim of parental neglect and domestic violence. The storyline gives a real life account of The Cycle of Domestic Violence. The beginning is interesting; however, drags for quite awhile. There are some grammar errors that interrupt the reading flow. The story flourishes in the second half of the book and earlier parts could have been shortened. Overall, I rate the book OK!

3.0 out of 5 stars The Darker the Berry July 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I thought this was a very good story, and it dealt with some important issues such as sexual, physical and verbal abuse. I really liked the main character, Ebony, and I felt that by the end of the novel she had truly grown and matured. However, I thought the story itself was too long and drawn out, and there were some inconsistencies in the storyline that I couldnt get past. All in all, it was an ok read.

This book had me wanting to protect Ebony and at the same time made me want to give her the love she always wanted and needed. The Darker the Berry the Deeper the Roots will take you through different emotions from laughing one minute to wanting to kidnap her baby daddy and make sure his punk ass gets lost in the desert some where. Ms.Brown has written a complete and emotional charged novel. Five Star read

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent read October 23, 2012

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I disliked the length of time it took the book to get interesting. I decided to stick with it though and glad I did.  Another thing, too many characters mentioned hard to keep up with who was who. Also several spelling and punctuation errors throughout book. Some parts of the book were unrealistic like Llyod and Ebony‘s mother relationship, Jonah and GG, and a few others.
