Different than their previous sound, but still very good!!,

Molly Hatchet took a controversial turn in 1984 when they came out with this record. Let's just say that it doesn't sound like "Flirtin' With Disaster." Previously, like on that album, Molly Hatchet was always a hard Southern-rock boogie band that was considered to be a borderline heavy-metal version of Lynyrd Skynrd. On this record, they took a sharp turn into straightforward keyboard-and-guitar-riff heavy metal territory in an effort to gain some popularity with the young heavy-metal audiences. While this move was largely decried as a sellout tactic by the band's devout longtime fans, this album is actually very good. Danny Joe Brown's deeply-Southern-fried vocals blend in surprisingly well with the band's slick, polished sound. The first and the best song on here, "Satisfied Man," is an upbeat keyboard-and-guitar-riff anthem that begins with a mid-tempo drumbeat (instead of a fast guitar riff-- shocker!), and doesn't let up from there. It's a great driving song with great backing vocals that makes you wanna sing along with it. The next best song on the album is the MTV hit "Stone In Your Heart" which is preceded by a keyboard intro piece (another shocker!) which is actually listed as a separate track. To the band's credit, this song could have been very nearly maudlin, but it turns out to be a catchy song with "na-na-na-NA-na" background vocals. Overall, if you're a fan of mid-80's commercial heavy metal, this would be a great CD to add to your collection. But if you're a diehard fan of Molly Hatchet's late 70's - early 80's Southern boogie sound, you should probably skip it, as it will most likely anger you. As for me, well, I love BOTH sounds, so I consider this CD to be excellent!! :)

Without doubt the best album by Molly Hatchet,

In my opinion, Molly Hatchet have been a second grade southern rock band way behind Lynyrd Skynyrd as well as Blackfoot. But with the release of 1984's "The deed is done", Molly Hatchet got their act together and gave us an album full of groovy melodic rock of high quality. Some fans think this album is too light, too commercialized, too popish (the even used some keyboards) but the fact is that Molly Hatchet have never sounded as good as they do on "The deed is done", and the album sure rocks. Just listen to the opening riff of "Satisfied man" which kinda sets the tone for what to come. With songs like "Good smoke and whiskey" with its slight resemblance to ZZ Top, the catchy semi ballad "Stone in your heart", the very Lynyrd Skynyrd sounding "Heartbreak radio" and the in-your-face "Man on the run" this is without doubt the best release from Molly Hatchet.

This album from 84 is a commercial goldmine.I was out of High School a year when the Deed is Done album came out.Satisfied Man starts off going right down to Stone In Your Heart and beyond.Great album to crank up no matter where you are or who you are with at the time.I miss Danny Joe Brown's vocals and direction.Today Molly Hatchet is still around but to me they lost that old drive...Sorry I'm old school....They are still one of my favorite bands.

Disgraceful!!,

This album is a COMPLETE DISGRACE to the Molly Hatchet name. I can see that they were trying to go "pop". I mean synthezisers? Synths are fine for Rush, Pink Floyd, Foreigner, and even Lep Zeppelin, but not Molly Hatchet. There's only one decent song and that's "Straight Shooter". The rest sounds very cheesy, I mean very cheesy!! You know what the music reminded me of? The kind of music that they play at the end of a bad B-movie when they are showing the credits. No joking! Also to the reviewer that said that the last few MH cds sound out of tune, dude clean the earwax from inside your ears buddy. Listen to their version of "Free Bird" with Charlie Daniels. Totally outstanding!!

"No Guts...No Glory" is Molly's best album. But this one comes in a close 2nd place. Shame you can only order it as an import. The rest of Molly Hatchet's "out-of-tune" collection sucks and only those die-hard Molly fans really like those. But this one is a buy to go with the "No Guts...No Glory" CD and you won't need the rest!

This CD and the "No Guts No Glory" album are the best music this group ever did!! My brothers and I could not stand Molly's earlier stuff. You had to be pretty high to put up with that noise they cranked out on the earlier records. The Deed Is Done even had a cool music video release from the single Stone In Your Heart. You can even listen to this on a road trip drink beer.....GOOD STUFF!!!

I would not say this album stinks, but considering the kind of band Molley Hatchet was supposed to be, a southern rock band, this work does not fit in with what Molly Hatchet was intended to be. I would only recomend purchasing it if you are completing your collection, otherwise, stick with the first five Hatchet albums. REALLY!!!!

Very Poor.,

I'm sure Danny Joe Brown cringes when he hears this album these days. It is truly bad. Nothing like the classic Hatchet. A pure sell out. Avoid.
