Amazon.com Review

This is the only Chinese astrology book you'll ever need!

You may be familiar with the Chinese birth-year animals, but did you know you actually have four of them? Each year, each month, each day, and each two-hour period of the day is distinct and denoted by a particular animal sign (branch) and one of the five elements (stems).

In The Definitive Book of Chinese Astrology, you will learn how to forecast your love- and life-cycles; understand the indicators of health, wealth, and happiness in your chart; and identify balances and cures.

You will also discover Zi Wei Dou Shu, the best-kept astrological secret for millennia and formerly accessible only to royalty. The most accurate and profound divination tool ever discovered--a sort of Dewey decimal system of the universe--this system of astrology will help you identify your inborn capabilities, achievement potential, and life path.

Finally, you will learn about the Eastern astrological subspecialties, including the I-Ching, feng shui, 9 Star Ki, and Chinese palmistry.

The included interactive CD-Rom makes it easy to create Chinese astrological charts for yourself, your friends, and family members.

*The CD contains 1391 KB of information in total so it is not blank. If the customer's operating system is not any of the following (Windows 7, 98se, 2000, XP, or Vista), he or she will not be able to install the program and hence will not be able to view the instructional text.

About Shelly Wu

Like most of those born into a year of the defending Dog, Shelly Wu spent a fair amount of her childhood fighting bullies -- taking up the gauntlet for the picked-on and the friendless.

She no longer scuffles with bullies, but her soapboxes still run high. She believes "In the perception of the smallest is the secret of clear vision; in the guarding of the weakest is the secret of all strength." - Lao Tzu

Shelly's horoscope columns and feature articles have appeared in A. Magazine: Inside Asian America, The Rainbow News, The Tea Leaf, Psychic Interactive, Your Stars, InTouch and LIFE magazines. Her articles have been featured on the Associated Press, ABC News, the BBC, and the Wireless Flash news service.

In 1995, Shelly's website premiered in a new realm called the "Internet" and since that time has become a definitive source of information. Ms. Wu currently teaches Chinese and Mesoamerican Astrology at the International Academy of Astrology, is the author of the bestselling books Chinese Astrology: Exploring the Eastern Zodiac, Chinese Sexual Astrology: Eastern Secrets to Mind-Blowing Sex,The Karma Sutra: Sex, Love and Relationship Zen and The Definitive Book of Chinese Astrology.

Those who have met Shelly say she has a certain 'spark' that is unmistakable. Using an eclectic mixture of metaphysics and astrology, she has a gift for encouragement -- her best role being that of moral supporter. Shelly confesses "I only believe in meaningful coincidences...I've been to the top of life's mountain and face down in it's valleys, and I believe that happiness and misfortune walk the same street." Shelly Wu lives and loves in the mountains of northern California with her menagerie of pets and can be heard on radio talk shows worldwide.

I can't believe this book is falling apart already. i'm so gentle with my books that they rarely ever crease yet this book's binding glue is unsticking and half the pages are falling out. so cheap.

but despite this it's actually a great reference book that has a good amount of details. I've managed to figure out most aspects about myself and others based on it. However i must warn you that sometimes she is hard to understand and skimps a little on instructions. I feel as though you have to be already at a competent level of chinese astrology and already do it as a hobby to approach this book. Whenever i read it i feel like i have to constantly fill-in-the blanks and read between the lines or make difficult connections to pieces of data on my own.

You know that feeling you get when you are shuffling your notes and trying to keep up with a fast-talking professor in college who talks slightly above you and you need to supplement info from elsewhere to make the proper "connections"? That's how i felt reading this.

It's not well written compared to other books on the subject but IF you can understand her you will glean more from this book than most any other.

I should also note that she makes several errors by repeating herself, or saying the wrong animal sign. She is also missing one of the spiritual life stages called, "Child". A friend of mine is at this stage and it's nowhere to be found!.

Good thorough coverage, though confusing at times. This could be due to having gotten kindle version and not received cd, which is what book focuses text around. Book continues to return to natal chart created using cd, so I do NOT recommend getting version wirelessly and then trying to get a birth chart from a website. Otherwise, the comprehensive material is a good start to get you a firm knowledge base in Chinese astrology, though you may walk away with even more questions when you finish.

Essential information is missing. The author has posted the missing pages on her website, what else can she do ?

The CD-ROM leaves MUCH to be desired in regards to performance and design. The info was not programed in correctly , so your chart will not be accurate. For example if you were born in the month of August , your month pillar is Monkey but she has it in as Goat which is the month pillar for July.

I think this product should be done over before any more prints!
