Definitive? Yes. The Collection? Not Yet.,

Definitive? Yes. The Collection? Not Yet. Don't get me wrong. I love this CD. It practically has a permanent home in my stereo. The mere fact that this CD features a broader variety of Miss Bofill's songs (moreso than the previously released "The Best of Angela Bofill") makes it "definitive" and a nice addition to any Bofill collection. With this CD you get everything you love about Angela Bofill: her classic ballads, her Latin rhythms, her earthy low tones and soaring high notes! It's all there. So, I get "Bo-filled" about 3 or 4 times a week with this CD. I have to admit, however, I was shocked and annoyed when I found out that "Break It To Me Gently" was not included. What's up with that?!! So far, my only consolation to this gross and careless oversight has come from reading other reviews. I now realize that many Bofill fans are also disappointed because their favorite songs were omitted from this "Definitive Collection", too. The solution?: The next compilation of Angela Bofill's best recordings must be a minimum of 2 or 3 CDs! (This is NOT a novel idea. So, why hasn't it been done yet?) It will have to include: "The Feelin's Love", "People Make the World Go Round", "Te Amo", "I Wanna Love Somebody", "All She Wants", "Are You Leaving Me Now?", "Soul of Mine" and, of course, "Break It To Me Gently". Such a collection will be more than definitive; it will be "The Optimum Collection" of Miss Angela Bofill.

Thank you Arista!,

I e-mailed Arista records to thank them for releasing this disc..included is Angela's hard-to find- "Under the Moon and Over The Sky", a gorgeous, lush ballad filled with Afro-Cuban influence and "Too Tough", a great dance tune. There is also a remake of "Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing" with Boz Scaggs that would make Marvin and Tammi smile down from above. Angela soars on "Tonight I Give In", "Tell Me Tomorrow", and "Still In Love", each tune providing the space for her wide range and emotional investment. And then there is "This Time I'll Be Sweeter", a a plaintive cry for the return of her lover that indeed is sweeter, and her signature "I Try", a fusion of jazz, blues, and R&B that is unique to only her. There are singers and then there are vocal stylists...Angela Bofill owns all these songs and after listening, she will own you as a fan...

long overdue release,

Many people have waited a long time for this greatest hits collection, True, "I try", "too tough", and the beautiful,"Under the moon and over the sky",were necessary hits to be included but what happened to all the wonderful songs like "The voyage," "Rainbow child" and "people make the world go around? True, soft jazz radio stations have finally caught up with what Angela and Grusin & Rosen did years ago but this collection is missing the true essence of their collabrations, not just the pop hits but the afro-cuban jam sessions that was Angela's signature.I was pleased that Arista finally released yet some more of Angela's masterpieces but could they re-release her first two albums, "Angie" and "Angel of the Night"? on cds. I'm sure it would create a whole new generation of worthy jazz listeners.

Simply the Best,

Angela Bofill has always been my favourite singer. I agree with the credits inside the sleeve that her voice is something like an angel voice. This album covers her early career, which was her golden days. Ok, not all my favourite songs are here. But having Something About You, Can't Slow Down, Baby I Need Your love, This Time I'll Be Sweeter and some songs are enough for me to get this album. With Dave Grusin and his GRP guys helping Angela in her early days, undoubtfully make the songs as beautiful as you ever imagine.

I'm a Huge Angela Bofill fan & this CD was the BOMB! Only thing lacking from this CD are album tracks like 'YOU'RE A SPECIAL PART OF ME", "PEOPLE MAKE THE WORLD GO ROUND","GOTTA MAKE IT UP TO YOU" & "THE FEELIN'S LOVE". Those songs may not have been chart toppers, but they deserved a place on this CD. Neverthless, this CD is a must have for true collectors.

Angela Bofill at her best from 1978-86.,
By
This review is from: Definitive Collection (Audio CD)
Angela Bofill is my all-time favorite female singer. This 17-track compilation includes most of her big 1978-86 hits for the GRP and Arista labels and also some LP-only tracks. Despite her enormous and amazing talent Ms. Bofill was (inexplicably) unable to score even one mainstream hit and did not become the superstar she should have been. Once you listen to (and enjoy!) such timeless ballads as "Tonight I Give In", "Still In Love", "I Try", "This Time I'll Be Sweeter" and "I'm On Your Side" you'll understand why Angela is said to have an angel's voice. The fact that both Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey are fans of Ms. Bofill and have cited her as a major influence on their singing styles should convince many of her enormous and truly God-given talent.

Ms. Angela Bofill was one of those unique talents that rank right up there with the great, late Ms. Phyllis Hyman. Ms. Bofill's exotic sound was natural and unique, she could take any genre and make it her own. I feel that she along with Ms. Hyman were not promoted as heavily as these make believe so called Diva's of today. These women sang with what God gave them, and not any electronic support. So, what you heard with them was total truth!!
Some of today's singer's could learn something from these women. What made me search for this album was, I heard "Angel of the Night" on a Jazz station, and I searched for Ms. Bofill's work. This album, "The Definitive Collection" is a well put together collection of some of her greatest hits, from Pop to R&B. May we Pray for Ms. Bofill, whoms health has failed in recent years, due to complications of Strokes. God Bless Her.

A great career retrospective from GRP/Arista masters,

Finnally, her most commercially successful hits in one package! For the first time on CD is her big dance hit TOO TOUGH. Along with HOLDIN' OUT FOR LOVE.The only dissapointment is for those of you who are unfamiliar with Angie's unique voice, may find the order of these songs to be missmatched. When she first came on the scene, she was known for her jazz arrangements. She moved on to R&B and Ballads. An Anthology would be great.Including WE"LL MAKE LOVE with Dave Valentine.
