Hell hath no fury like a woman possessed...

After her hunky police detective partner guns down a serial killer in front of her, "psychic consultant" Eden Riley realizes that she's no longer alone. A voice in her head introduces himself as Darrak. He's a demon. But not in a bad way. He was cursed 300 years ago and he wants to find a way to break free. Eden's psychic energy helps him take form during daylight, and she's going to have to learn to live with this sexy demon...like it or not.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Rowen (Bitten & Smitten) throws together a demon with a checkered past, an exorcist with an agenda, and a witch with a self-help book in this funny, suspenseful, and frequently hot paranormal series launch. Eden Riley is nearly 30 and unemployed when she inherits a half-share in a detective agency. The police learn of her powers and take her on a hunt for a serial killer—who happens to be possessed. When the killer gets his comeuppance, the demon picks Eden for his new host. Darrak seems to be a nice enough guy, but he can hear and see everything that Eden does, which considerably compromises Eden's budding romance with police detective Ben Hanson. The twists come thick and fast, and Rowen leaves plenty of tangles unresolved for sequels. (May)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Dialogue May 19, 2010
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Eden Riley is a skeptical psychic. After helping the Chief of Police's wife find her missing dog she was pressured into taking a job as a psychic consultant for the police. No one is more miserable about this arrangement than Eden. She freely admits that she doesn't believe she's psychic. She gets hunches that pan out, but she can't make herself have psychic visions. That means she's not psychic, right? Unfortunately for Eden, on her first consultant job she gets a hunch about where a serial killer is and ends up with more than she bargained for. All of a sudden she's hearing a man's voice in her head and she just doesn't know what's going on.

Darrak is a demon who has to jump from host to host to survive. Unfortunately for Eden, that serial killer was his last host and when Detective Ben killed him Darrak was forced to jump to another body. Guess who that turned out to be? Yes, Darrak and Eden now inhabit the same body. This is something new for both of them as Eden has never had a demon in her (obviously) and Darrak has never jumped to a female before.

Watching Darrak and Eden navigate the boundaries of their new life was fun. The author actually addresses subjects that the common reader would ask. What happens when Eden needs to go to the bathroom? What happens if she wants to get physical with someone? They have very funny exchanges throughout the book and the momentum never stops.

I really liked that Eden didn't trust Darrak right away. I think it was very realistic for her to try to take the measures that she did. She unwittingly started an undesirable chain of events, but how was she supposed to know? She was looking out for number one. I also really liked the facts that we found out about Darrak. I liked that he tried to present himself in the best possible light and that Eden had to figure out if she was okay with the reality of who he was once she found out more about him.

All in all a fun new series that I would definitely recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Possessed by The Demon In Me! May 4, 2010
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Or should I say obsessed, mesmerized, entranced...any and all of those adjectives apply!

I've been a big fan of Michelle's work since her first book, Bitten & Smitten. Since I loved the Immortality Bites series, color me a bit skeptical that she could write a hero I liked as much (or even a wee bit more) as IB's Thierry de Bennicoeur. I was wrong. Darrak, the demon who does the possessing (and the occasional ass kicking and/or romancing, as the situation warrants) in The Demon In Me is my favorite Rowen hero yet. Even though he has his angst - hello, demon - he has a sense of humor about the situation he and Eden find themselves in. He doesn't take himself too seriously and he's also pretty direct about who and what he is, though he dispenses the truth in manageable doses for the confused human who ends up being his earthly vessel.

Eden's..refreshing, for a lack of a better word. Smart and self-aware, she's a character I loved spending time with. I very much related to what she was going through, as impossible as that sounds. You can't help but root for her to somehow find her improbable happy ending with the demon who has possessed her. But all's not as it seems with Eden, and I can't wait to find out more about her backstory in the next book.

The scenes between Eden and Darrak sizzle, but I also laughed out loud - at work, no less - several times. Rowen writes great romantic comedy, but the subject matter definitely isn't all sunshine and roses. This is paranormal romance at its finest and the action is non-stop. Don't expect to have time to sleep or eat once you start this book, because I sure didn't. I sucked the story down so fast that October and Something Wicked seem VERY far away. A truly excellent start to what I know will be a fantastic series!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, Sexy Paranormal Romantic Comedy May 17, 2011
By Ann
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
LOVED this book. A 4.5 Stars. This is a new author find for me. I've since downloaded several of her books. Have loved every one of them. The Demon in Me is hot, sexy, incredibly witty and funny. Eden is a psychic working as a consultant for the police. As a result of the murder of his host, Darrack is a demon forced to possess Eden by night but has control over his body by day...just as long as he stays within 90 feet of Eden. Darrack is hilarious and he and Eden are a fabulous couple. Eden is intelligent, brave and sharp. The paranormal world explodes for her once Darrack comes along. This is a great series, fast paced, nonstop action, with wacky side characters... just a fun sexy read. They're on a mission to find a way for Darrack to be able to exist outside of Eden's body. The sequel Something Wicked is just as good and leaves you wanting more. Anxiously waiting on That Old Black Magic in September.
