The Science of Doctor Who
I picked this up to watch ahead of the new season of Doctor Who. I should have simply watched "The Wedding of River Song" again instead.

Each segment of the documentary style program focuses on one piece of classic Who lore (like the TARDIS, sonic screwdriver, or even Regeneration.)

The segments all start with clips from the current run of Doctor Who (no older clips, sadly), along with a short description - and then follows an often tedious attempt to translate the item into our technology, followed by a discussion which ends with a guess of how soon we'll have something that looks a Sonic Screwdriver.. sorta.. if you squint.

Really, I'm not sure what I was expecting - but this somehow felt both light on science content, and long on science-like discusion.

So from what I see most people are very excited. The BBC allowed Amazon to place a trailer before listing MATT SMITH's Final Episode. Some people hurriedly made their purchase as soon as the item popped up with the title. Unfortunately the first purchase on 12/19/2013 was not the episode nor was the second one available on 12/25/2013. It wasn't until I looked just after 2:15 am on 12/26/2013 that the episode was available to me even though the location was saved on the page. The episode was great! Still, many people were justifiably upset as they excitedly clicked on the wrong item and made an incorrect purchase. So my heading is a warning if you do not want to buy the wrong item. Take a breath when you finally arrive on this page. Read every item carefully and make the correct purchase. You will enjoy the last installment of the MATT SMITH era Doctor Who. Good luck!!!

It's been awhile since I watched this but I remember it being as I said in the title fun and interesting. Actually, all the videos that were included with this on the specials were very enjoyable to watch.

Get this for sure. Especially if you're a household currently in the grip of a Dr Who phase (like us). There may be some minor spoilers if you haven't seen a lot of the season, but they are usually careful not to reveal too many major plot reveals or twists.

They are well executed, and you really do get a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff. I've seen "insider" shows before where all they really do is explain the episode to you and include a few gratuitous behind-the-camera shots (the ones for "The Killing" stand out in my mind as I write this). These are definitely done like that, they're worth getting!

I love the doctor! I love that the doctor sometimes comes to the U.S.!

I sometimes wish he would come a little less often, because it causes the show to lose just a little bit of its British flavor, but this best of collection does a good job of discussing the Doctor's experiences in the U.S. without giving away too many spoilers.

I like the specials, but the only thing I would change is that they should show more of the previous Doctors. I figure they are mostly promoting the new Doc, but the others dealt with all the stuff Matt had to deal with also. But either way, it's fun to see American and Brits talk Who.

MY Husband, son and grandson all watch these together. I'm glad to see them enjoying something together.I don't watch it so I can't personally rate the series, but anything that can keep all three generations interested must have something going for it.

I love just about everything Doctor Who and I devoured the Best of Specials! It was, in my opinion, great to see other Whovialns geek out as much as I do when I talk about Doctor Who, and that's what I saw when watching it.
