Book Description

Set in Southern England, 1815
Thomas Danfield's sexual escapades have kept the ton entertained for years and he has no plans to alter his self-indulgence lifestyle by taking a wife. But his world changes drastically when he receives the unwelcome news that he is now the 12th Marquis of Clarendon. The new marquis grudgingly accepts that he must take on the responsibility of finding a bride and producing the next heir or the Clarendon line will cease to exist.
On his way to see the Clarendon estates, he stops to visit friends and his quandary of finding a bride is solved. Caught in raging storm, he and his best friend's youngest sister, Cecelia, are forced to take shelter in a deserted hunting lodge. His attraction to the free-spirited, red-headed beauty is too strong to ignore and the evening turns shockingly passionate. Three weeks later, he and the young lady he's known since she was a infant are wed.

Cecelia never expected to marry the biggest rake in London, but she's determined to turn their hasty marriage into a love match. Her life takes on another twist once they reach the Clarendon estate in Devon. A mysterious, French stranger, robbed of his memory after a savage beating, comes to stay with them. Feeling neglected by her husband, Cecelia is flattered by the attention their house guest shows her. She has no idea of the danger he poses, for his original reason for coming to England had been revenge. But without that recollection, he has fallen desperately in love with her and will do anything, including murder, to have her.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book! August 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Okay, romances are my guilty pleasure, but some of them are pretty dumb. This one's really smart. It's witty, lots going on, and the plot actually makes sense. I love it when the hero is not perfect but the heroine brings out the best in him, and that's what this book delivers. Lord Clarendon is attractive, sexy, rich, smart, and at first, a reluctant titled lord and husband. Lady Cecilia is an eighteen-year-old spitfire, a perfect match for a man who had decided long ago that he didn't want a wife. André, a former French spy with a vendetta against our hero, throws their lives in turmoil when he comes to England to have his revenge. The plot moves along nicely, but still takes time to set time and place. I highly recommend it.

2.0 out of 5 stars I wish I had liked it, but I just didn't. April 19, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I thought this book was well-written, but the story itself didn't hold my interest. I found myself skimming several pages at a time and had to force myself to keep reading. I just didn't feel a connection to Rand or Cecelia and to be honest their whole relationship bored me for the most part. I'm not suggesting that others might not like it, but it just wasn't my kind of romance. (Also, there were some typos, but nothing too serious.)

3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable story August 27, 2013

I liked the story. The characters were interesting, and well defined. My only problem with the book was that some of the words were omitted, and some of the sentences were repeated. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Randy Dandy and Stubborn Cecelia July 22, 2013
By Sara
Format:Kindle Edition
After loving Ms. Douglas's first regency, The Bewitching Hour, I had to read her second. I wasn't surprised when I found myself loving this romance just as much as the first. I'm a big fan when supporting characters from the first novel make their way to the spotlight and we get to hear their story. Ms. Douglas did an excellent job with the tasteful and classy love scenes, and made sure we were always kept guessing what would happen next between the two newlyweds. I also have to say that Ms. Douglas knows the regency period quite well; her dialogue is so spot on that I felt like I was there! I won't give away any more details or spoilers, but I do want to recommend this regency romance to everyone who enjoys this genre. Fantastic!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read April 28, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The Devil's Own Luck tells the story of Thomas Randolph Danfield (Rand) and Lady Cecelia Stratton. This regency romance caught my interest from the start and never let go. Rand and Cecelia grew up together, Rand being her brother's best friend. Back then she was a `brat', but now, at eighteen, she is a woman.

The story of their love affair and eventual marriage is a wonderful one. From trying to get know each other once again to learning to trust each other, the story evolves. Starting when Rand thinks he may be in love to when he eventually tells Cecelia that he does, the plot takes us through their ups and downs. The back story is also one that allows the reader to see more and more about who these people really are.

Diana Douglas once again has come up with a winner. Whether you like regency romance, or if you're like me and had never heard of it before, I am sure you'll enjoy this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read April 22, 2013

An enjoyable story with an attractive hero. My main dislike of the storyline was the ignorance of the heroine. I realize she was young and supposedly unaware of her beauty, but I do think she would have known when a man was behaving in an inappropriate manner. I am not young or beautiful and I know that! But it was a good story over all and I would recommend it.
