I hate to throw a wet dog blanket over the book and all of the other reviews, but I have to disagree with them. Despite the cuteness of Jinky and his "wife" Finley, this book was nothing but a venue to show off the bodies of and complain about the Hollywood careers (or lack of) of the author and her husband. Photos of the dogs or the dogs with their "parents" were great, but the glamour shots of the "mom" and "dad" were gratuitous and completely unnecessary. It wasn't written in a particularly clever way and there were a couple of blatantly offensive terms and references used. I'm the biggest dog-lover I know, and applaud the rescue operations that save so many deserving animals and pair them with loving owners, so I thought the end of the book where that is the focus was the best part. All the rest could have been skipped.

Jinky is a deceptive little book, pleasantly so. Just when you think you

totally understand it, it sneaks up on you and delivers a sucker punch of truth about the human spirit. Jinky the dog has lessons for all of us: be grateful for what you have, you could be a whole lot worse off! This sweet, funny, bawdy book is a laser beam into understanding the exotic microcosm of the folks who inhabit Hollywood. However, it has an underlying message for us all, particularly during this holiday season, which is to really love your life and those who inhabit it. Hooray for the rescue dogs!

Entertaining after a fashion but not my cup of tea. I quickly got tired of body part references, Hollywood attitudes, and, lets be frank, poor writing. Jinky is cute and it is a dog lovers book. It is not something I would give my mother (the intended recipient).

This book was gifted to me by a good friend and animal rights activist who feels great admiration for this author apparently. While I can certainly admire the author's activism against puppy mills, it seems to me it was more about showing off her Hollywood life and photos of herself and her husband and really less about activism. Out of curiosity, because I was told the author is a "movie star," whom I'd not heard of, so I googled her on the net, and yeah, okay, she's done some things on film, in music, nothing to sneeze at, but I just came away from her book, her activism and much about her thinking it's far more about her image, attention, and fame than true passion. I guess I was mildly entertained by Jinky, but I think this actress should stick to B movies and stay out of writing which is clearly out of her league. If you support Ms. Davis' animal rights work, I'd suggest skipping this mediocre, terribly unfunny book, and just contribute directly to her causes. The saddest part of Hollywood has-beens and B-listers, especially the ones who so desperately wanted to make it big and never really did, is that they are always far more taken with themselves than anyone else is.

From death-row in San Pedro to the A-List in the Hollywood Hills ~ I Love Jinky!
This book is hilarious! I think Hollywood can only benefit from a dog's diary. Jinky teaches us all that humans are a nutty breed and that we spend way too much time complaining about things that don't really matter. So much so, that we can barely appreciate the finer things in life. Like the the perfect "Tootsie Roll" poop. Life is full of Stupid Kitties, so what? To know Jinky is to have the answer to the eternal question, "Is the dog bowl half-full, or half-empty?" Especially in Hollywood, there's nothing like a little laughter and gas between friends!
Thank you Carole Raphaelle Davis for writing such a fun and entertaining book ~ and thank you so much for your continuing work in support of animal rescue!!!

This is one of the best books that that I have ever read. The humor and honesty is unparalleled. I truly believe that every adult should read this book and especially the last 4 or so pages where the author discusses important issues such as adopting versus shopping. She is so right, that people should take a trip to their local shelter and LEARN that until we spay and neuter we will ALWAYS face the sadness of all the wonderful animals that await their forever home. Mrs. Davis is a wonderful person and a true hero of mine. God Bless her and her wonderful animal companion Jinky. May we all learn from him and one by one change the world!

This book was a great take on how the life of one dog destined to be destroyed was saved, found a wife, lived part-time in France and yes...was able to jacuzzi whenever the mood struck him.

Carole's ability to capture Jinky's plausable thoughts on what it was like to endure callousness from uncaring owners who abused him and "threw him away" into the joy of being given a second chance is uplifting.

This book is a testimony to those who can not speak for themselves and gives the reader a look at how saving one life destined for death can be turned into a life that dreams are made of.
