About The Dirt - (Young Adult Fiction)
Lucy Whitley cannot wait to get out of Palm Desert. It’s not a place for a frizzy-haired science nerd, particularly when her fashion-obsessed older sister Sloane is the head of a clique of pretty girls who rule the school – and practically the whole town.

Fortunately, life is about to change forever. Lucy’s dad is getting re-married, and then she can transfer to a boarding school in Connecticut, escaping all the mean girls and the endless whispers about the Whitley family scandal. Everything is going to be perfect – as long as the wedding goes smoothly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast, Fun, Entertaining Read!! January 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was looking through kindle books, to get my Prime loan book for the month, when I came upon Dirt. I was not sure whether to get it or not, but decided to give it a try! WOW, am I ever glad I did! This was an excellent book! It was fun, engaging, and very entertaining. There is nothing better than some mystery and sibling rivalry...mixed with gossip and mayhem! I had this book read completely in about 3 days time....the last like 80% of it within a like 30 hour period..I just could not put it down! This is one of those books that you could probably read over and over agin! You root for the heroine sister, want to slap the mean one (Sloan...she is the girl we all hated in high school, lol)...and that is just 2 of the sisters...the others are characters all their own...and there is so much more to the story! I hope you read all the good reviews and give this book a read...Lori is a great author and I will be definately checking out her other work! I loved this!

4.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable story January 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Wasn't sure if this was supposed to be a YA book, or not, but I enjoyed it.

It has humor, family drama, and a little mystery. The characters are very believable, and you find yourself rooting for more than one of them. The PG storyline was funny and something most people can relate to - it explains so well in a sarcastic way why all the pretty people stick together. I thought the author using a teenage girl's voice to tell the story really made the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging, entertaining read December 14, 2011

The Dirt is a great read and has a little something for everyone: the girl everyone is rooting for, the bitchy older sister everyone loves to hate, mysterious disappearances, paparazzi, secret societies, young love, and even a mean grandma.

Young adults will be sucked into this book - and (older) adults will too.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Dirt by Lori Culwell - READ IT - DARE YOU! September 2, 2013
Format:Paperback
The Dirt by Lori Culwell is just as it reads. DIRTY with a fast paced plot, detailed and believable characters, smooth flow with just the right amount of suspense, twists and turns where you least expect and a storyline that sticks brilliantly from the first word through to the last. Wow - now that was a mouthful!
Three sisters - all opposites - you've got Lucy who's the "nerdy" one, happy off to the side. Then there's Sloane that's the "pretty" sister, completely full of herself and has a bite that's lethal. The youngest is Frankie, the skate-boarder type. First there were three sisters and now there are four!

And so the drama continues!

Lucy's mother left years ago and took the fourth sister Megan with her. Of course on her father's wedding day Megan shows up after all these years out of nowhere? Why did Megan show face? What's she really up to? . . .
Girl drama, mystery, suspense, deceit, nastiness, blackmail and unique family relations trigger it all.
A story about right and wrong, REAL LIFE drama that hits you from the inside out. Should you read it? YES! YES! YES!

First Impressions: I have come to find I adore the genre of Chick Lit and have recently been reading many of these types of books. So when I was asked by Lori's Publicist to read and review her book I was super excited. I just love the cover of the book, so very simple and fits the story to a tee. From what I read in the blurb about the book provided for me I knew The Dirt would be a excellent fit.

My Review: Upon opening the book and reading the first page I was hooked already. The story moved along very quickly and as I read I found there was never a dull moment throughout the book. While The Dirt is a short read with only 205 pages it surely packed a punch; leaving the reading always wanting more.

Lucy Whitley and her two sisters, Sloane and are the talk of the town. Being rich and having wild gossip always surrounding them is part of there every day lifes. Lucy wants nothing more than to get through her Father's wedding, move away from all of drama and go to a prestigious boarding school in Connecticut. Oh course nothing seems to go as planned for Lucy. When her Father and new step-mother are about to say their "I DO"S", when "someone" from the past shows up with shocking news. Now Lucy is being forced to leave for vacation with her family and the "new addition" is coming along for the ride. While what comes in the story next will blow you away. The Drama, The Deception and The Dirt makes for a thrilling read.

I adore everything about the book from the cover to the story itself. Very fresh and unique. I loved how smooth and fast the pace of the book when. The story and the character's were very entrancing. I could not put the book down, literally. I stay awake until 1 AM to finish the book. I just found I NEEDED to know what came next and how it would end.

4.0 out of 5 stars So Much Dirt On One Family! February 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Oh, the joys of a posse of bored teenaged rich girls. This book makes me afraid for my daughter's teen years!

In spite of the brand dropping and insane amount of money these kids of stars and athletes are throwing around, I was reminded of some uncomfortable times in my teens. Back when I couldn't WAIT to get away from my family and live my own life, the pre-emptive pain of leaving my friends behind, college and future plans, and everybody's careful tiptoeing to find their place in the tricky hierarchy that is the high school social ladder. Ms. Culwell seems to have nailed that down very well.

The tale is centered on a girl named Lucy, who is a middle child, a typical diplomatic "please don't focus on me, let's keep the peace" type who feels overlooked in her family. Stuck between a stuck up older sister and a physically exhausting younger sister, in a town that is still gossiping about a family scandal almost a decade after the fact, Lucy wants nothing more than to relocate and find herself away from everything she started with. Lucy's personality is well crafted and believable.

Also well written was the twisted plotting of the antagonist, Sloane. That Sloane is the girl you love to hate. Maybe I'm too jaded, but when Lucy started thinking maybe Sloane had changed, I didn't believe it for a minute. The transition was too abrupt. However, the holiday timing was good, so points for that.

The height of the story was fabulous. It came together beautifully. Lucy uncovering the family secrets and trying to pull the family together gave this story the layers it needed to keep this from being just another "Mean Girls" kind of tale. Lucy is a person young ladies can connect with, and so is the new arrival, Megan.
