The star of the Disintegration Loops,

This is easily my favorite of the Disintegration Loops albums, and "d|p 4" is certainly my favorite track therein. Unfortunately only 20 minutes long, this track is an absolutely beautiful work of art. Heavy disintegration only halfway through the track leaves the loop barely clinging to life at the end - perhaps the best representation of the meaning of Basinski's work.Go into these works with an open mind, and take the time to understand Basinski's purpose in creating the Disintegration Loops. I hope that you'll enjoy them as much as I have.

I had never thought I would be interested in anything this simplistic or drawn out. I figured it would just be boring, and lack any involvement emotionally on my part. It did the exact opposite of all of that.On this CD in particular, pt. III of the Disintegration Loops, Basinski offers us some of the most atmospherically rich music I have ever heard. DLP 5 really struck me as a beautiful piece of music on an extremely deep emotional level. Aside from that, it happens to be the most intricately performed piece of it's series. The song's loop, from beginning to end, loses a millisecond every repeat. So by the end of the song, there is a gap between the last two notes of the loop. A truly incredible aspect of the music, and incredibly inspiring. I recommend this whole entire series, as each song has it's own individual characteristics that make it awesome. His other works usually involve solo piano loops, and less ethereal sounds. This series however is very rich in that, along with it's very visual inspiring album artwork. |
