"This is a delicious book, one that demands tea or chocolate and hours to savor the words and thoughts of her characters . . . the story tumbles out beautifully, structured with a sense of inevitability--and yet I still found myself surprised. Mariam hits familiar notes and yet the story feels altogether fresh. She is a lovely writer and one to watch." --Johanna Harness, Author of Spillworthy
"A gorgeous book; from the strangely tactile, softly coloured cover right through to the unresolved ending, Kobras plays on all the senses to weave a tale of love that is bigger than either of the main characters. Her style is reminiscent of Anita Shreve, and if you liked Body Surfing, then you will love this." --Jane Travers
"Kobras delivers a story of love that transcends time and crosses continents. Poignant and beautiful . . . Fans will appreciate her fresh voice." --Donna Carrick, author of IPPY Award-winner,The First Excellence
About the Author
Award-winning author Mariam Kobras was born in Frankfurt, Germany. Growing up, she lived with her family in Brazil and Saudi Arabia before they decided to settle in Germany. She attended school there and studied American literature and psychology at Justus-Liebig-University in Giessen. Today she writes and lives in Hamburg, Germany, with her husband, two sons, and two cats.
The storyline for The Distant Shore was inspired by her fascination with the limitations fame can impose on people. Her book explores the value of love in a world where money and a front-page photo are sometimes more important than a person's soul.
