This book was actually the only one I could find that had English and Farsi side-by-side. The translations are authentic in that the translator tries not to stick to the original meanings. It's not a stiff literal translation either which I appreciated. A lot of concepts that don't translate well are transliterated and explained further in footnotes with proper context. The printing and quality of the book is good for a paperback and it's like a typical college textbook. If you're looking for light reading, there are more interpretive translations that are more accessible for English-only speaking readers. For a more authentic translation and for comparison with the original, this is the best edition I've seen and worth the premium price.

I find this book to be the best bilingual text of Hafez Sahib's work so far. It can be improved of course, and would have given it a five if it was the absolute best of all time. However for now it is the best out there and I hope to see an even better and more perfected version in the future.

Excellent copy, clear Persian and English writing, very precise and to the point translation; however at times I do feel that the actual meaning is lost in translation. This I suppose happens with translations of any text from one language to another, but I am hopeful that there will be an even better version in the future. For now, I would say if you are a fan of Hafez Sahib's work then this is a great copy to have and share with your non Persian speaking friends and/or your children that may not know how to read Persian, but would like to learn and understand the great work of Hafiz Sahib.

Although I am glad to have the Persian next to the English, Persian doesn't mark half its vowels, which means that it's impossible to sound the Persian out, which means the translator has given us barely an inkling of the poetry of the original. I have a volume with a small selection of Hafez with the original Persian and the transliterations, and let me tell you, it has made all the difference. I'd rather have a selection of work with transliteration than a complete work without. In addition, this is not a scholarly work, and it is nothing like a college textbook, as mentioned in another review. The Introduction is seven measly pages, the "footnotes" are simply a glossary, and the Persian font is fairly small. The copy I received had been print-to-order, and the print was inferior. It's not quite dot matrix, but if you look close, the Persian type and even the English type are pixelated: not laser quality.
