Book Description

It’s what you can’t see that can hurt you

The temptation that regularly assaults you, the depression or illness that pulls you down, the discord in your relationships, the private doubts you harbor about God…

These are not just a natural part of life–they’re battles in a behind-the-scenes war against your faith, family, and future. From a balanced perspective, Robert Jeffress lifts the curtain of everyday existence to reveal these invisible but very real battles in the war Satan wages against followers of Christ like you.

Because you don’t have to be spiritual road kill…

Using the spiritual armor of Ephesians 6, The Divine Defense outlines six practical strategies you can use through every day to defeat Satan’s vicious and destructive plan:

·Recognize and replace destructive thoughts (the belt of truth)
·Do what you know you should do (the breastplate of righteousness)
·Make God’s business your business (boots of the gospel of peace)
·Move forward in spite of doubts (the shield of faith)
·Remember your power to win (the helmet of salvation)
·Strengthen your resolve to resist (the sword of the spirit)

Together, these strategies form The Divine Defense that will help you live victoriously in the unshakable power of God.

Praise for The Divine Defense

“In The Divine Defense, Robert Jeffress equips the believer with a clear and practical battle strategy for the ideals we hold sacred. I highly recommend this latest from one of Christianity’s leading pastor-teachers.”
Dr. Ed Young, pastor, Second Baptist Church in Houston, Texas, and author of Romancing the Home and The Ten Commandments of Marriage

“If you can only read one book in 2006, this is it, and for all your remaining years of spiritual service, you will be glad you did.”
Chaplain (COL) Gil A. Stricklin, USA, Retired, founder and president, Marketplace Chaplains USA and International

“Suit up and step up! Robert Jeffress has written a book about truths that should be both in our heads and hearts to prepare us for spiritual battle. Intensively biblical. Useful in the day-by-day. This is one book I’m sure to reread on numerous occasions.”
Dr. Mark L. Bailey, president, Dallas Theological Seminary

“A balanced look at spiritual warfare, giving us a concrete plan for success in the spirit realm. Dr. Jeffress pulls back the curtain and helps us see that high stakes battle raging in the ‘fifth dimension,’ and The Divine Defense shows how we can keep Satan on the run as we wage the spirit wars!”
Randy Singer, author of The Cross Examination of Jesus Christ and its companion novel, The Cross Examination of Oliver Finney

“Struggling with life’s challenges? The Divine Defense is the answer! Robert Jeffress identifies the enemy, exposes his strategies, reinforces our defenses, and motivates us to victory. Don’t miss this book with what you need to know to win–and win big!”
Dr. Ed Hindson, assistant chancellor, Liberty University

5.0 out of 5 stars a wake up call for today's Christian. December 6, 2006
Format:Paperback
Reviewed by Richard R. Blake for Reader Views (11/06)

Are you out of your comfort zone when thinking about levitating bodies, exorcising demons, and creepy voices? Jeffress has written this book to help those unaware of the spiritual battle we are in as Christians, and to the Christian fixated to the point of obsession, those giving more attention to the work of Satan than the work of Christ. In "The Divine Defense" Jeffress draws from the passage in Ephesians chapter six on the spiritual armor to suggest six powerful strategies for protecting our faith and to help our families face spiritual battles.

Quotations and illustrations drawn from well known and highly respected theologians and Christian authors authenticate the importance of the principles expressed by the author. Contemporary illustrations from the life and ministry of the author himself help the reader identify, and assimilate, these practical, personal life principles. I was impressed with the solid Biblical basis Jeffress maintained throughout the book. His work is well researched and documented with a wide variety of contemporary sources, and scripture references.

The book is divided into three parts: Understanding the enemy, strategies for success in the divine defense, and living the divine defense. The material is well organized, clearly articulated, interesting, and informative. I personally appreciated the format of the book. The topical headings within each chapter, the easy to read print, and the logical presentation, the simplicity of the definitions of theological terms, all work together to make this an incredible reading experience.

A study guide is provided for personal study or small group discussion.

4.0 out of 5 stars A written sermon, enjoyable and mostly a quick read January 17, 2009
Format:Paperback
Reading this book is a lot like listening to a sermon... read out loud. Dr. Jeffress writes like he preaches. That makes the book an easy read, highly accessible, and easy to move through. It's a good, thorough exposition of the various components Paul outlines we need for our spiritual protection. Dr. Jeffress also delves a bit into spiritual warfare, and dispels a lot of myths about demonic influence, possession, etc. Thoroughly good stuff.

My only pseudo-complaint is that, like almost any sermon that must serve 20-year olds and 60-year olds, marrieds, singles, etc., is that by definition the book doesn't get into as much nitty-gritty detail as I'd like. As a 32-year old, the attacks leveled at me are somewhat different than they are for a 56-year old widow, or an 18-year old college student. But this book gives me the foundational principles to then go dig into those more specific topics on my own, and never stray from Scripture.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent. Eye opening and practical August 17, 2009
Format:Paperback
Pastor Jeffress presents a case for action on the part of Christians who otherwise ignore the signs of evil in our society. Practical strategies were presented that are easily incorporated into my life. I've recommneded this book for my next bible study class and to our Pastor as a bible study that would strongly support our Church mission. Easy to read and a great resource.
