About the Author

Janet Greek has worked as a writer and director in Hollywood for 25 years. After experiencing two disastrous divorces herself and watching many smart, capable women lose everything in their own divorces, she began talking to women about what happened and why. Gradually, she developed a set of guidelines for divorce that became the concept for this book. Currently she speaks to women’s groups and divides her time between Los Angeles and Southern Oregon, where she lives with her daughter and an ever-expanding menagerie of animals.

7 of 8 people found the following review helpful By Lee Ayers on March 27, 2006
Janet Greek has done a wonderful job focusing women as they enter into one of life's toughest challenges! This book acts as a stand-alone guide to the nuts and bolts of planning a divorce. Often the curve ball never planned for, divorce hits like a hurricane and devastates almost everything in its path! Remaining focused and having an action plan versus a reaction plan is critical.

Greek's approach to assisting with this process offers a checks and balance list for women finding themselves in the eye of this storm and not prepared or versed in how to deal with the turbulence, high gusting winds, and flaying debris. Too often the only advice given to a woman during this time period is from someone not qualified. The Divorce Planner offers check items or a to-do list, a big picture approach from the start of the process--visiting a lawyer-- to after the final papers are signed, Hiring a lawyer, understanding the importance of your accountant, and working with a therapist are noted as the big three, and tips and advice on the best way to plan your divorce becomes a clear path not a fatal vision.

Chapter by chapter, the planner walks you through each major step: for example, telling the family and children, what to do when things get ugly, and how to survive the signing of the final papers. Greek offers loads of helpful advice, such as recommending that you celebrate your new beginning "Divorce Ceremony" where families, children, and individuals can rededicate themselves to loving and affirming the newly structured unit. This powerful ceremony identifies the group that becomes the support circle for the future. Each chapter also includes her down-to-earth answers to commonly asked questions. With all of its tips, advice, and organizers, The Divorce Planner may just be, the best way for women to ensure their divorce is as smooth as possible under the emotional rollercoaster ride experienced during such a discombobulated time period.
