*Note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book is a useful and straightforward guide to the divorce process. I found the step-by-step guides for dealing with finances, legal issues, and child custody (chapters one – four and chapter six) accessible and useful. I also thought the glossary and the appendix of divorce-related resources were very helpful.

As some have already pointed out, the book tends to repeat information. I also felt that chapters five, seven, eight and nine (the chapters dealing with emotional issues related to divorce) were perfunctory at best and largely unhelpful. Readers looking for information on this kind of subject matter should look elsewhere.

The content of this book can be a little overwhelming because there can be so much to do. I think that reflects the chaos and overwhelming nature of a divorce. The author doesn't picture the situation as something it's not. However, the author writes in a caring, nurturing manner. The sense is that a divorce can be hard, but you can get through it. This book is a very nice roadmap for how to get through. There is a lot of information and resources, but they are clearly organized. If anything, the book will help you know where to begin and provide structure for your course, which which is desperately needed during such a big life change.

The Divorce Survival Guide is a comprehensive tool for those unfortunate souls who find themselves in, or contemplating, this difficult situation. This book is practical, yet extensive. It includes online resources that take you beyond just the scope of what is covered in the text. At the same time, the content--which includes useful information regarding family, finances, the legal aspect of divorce, and much more--is so exhaustive, that the online resources actually supplement an already in-depth text. While divorce is not easy, The Divorce Survival Guide provides a roadmap to help you navigate the process.

The Divorce Survival Guide is an excellent reference guide for anyone thinking about divorce or already involved in the process. Separating from a spouse is a very sad, complicated, and confusing time. Having a resource guide like this at your fingertips can assist you in making the right decisions for you and your family.

The information is well organized and laid out in step-by-step chapters. The detailed glossary and reference pages at the back are very helpful if you need to gain additional information on a particular aspect of your divorce. Everyone's situation is going to be different but this excellent resource keeps you on top of exactly what areas you need to consider when navigating divorce.

The Divorce Survival Guide is practical and informative, an all-you-need-to-know for anyone planning to navigate the U.S. court system for a divorce. It teaches you HOW to be an advocate for yourself and how to solve any problems that you might face, whether you're experiencing an amicable parting or a violent break.

Step-by-step, you learn 1)the legal grounds for a divorce, 2) alternatives to divorce (i.e. legal separation, annulment, etc), 3) types of divorce (at-fault, uncontested). It even has a quiz to help you decide whether you should get an attorney, which is very helpful when you are unfamiliar with all the different decision-making components that go into filing for a divorce. The first part of the book, dealing with legal issues and finances, I found to be most practical, for the average person who just don't know the ins and outs of the legal system. The second half does deal with children/custody (also very useful) but also emotions, etc. For people looking for guidance in those areas, this may not be the place to get it--therapy or a book more specific to grieving and/or experiences with divorce would probably be more therapeutic and rich. Overall, the strength of this book was in teaching the things to watch out for when you are going through a divorce.

This book covers every stage and aspect of the divorce process, from deciding that divorce is the right choice, and what your options are - through the financial entanglements and how to best deal with child custody, support and visitation. It even has a section on how to move on when it is time.

Important resource information is included throughout the book as well as an additional list of resources and references for material included at the back.

This book is a must-have for anyone who is considering, just starting, or in the middle of a divorce. It makes an unpleasant experience bearable as it guides you through each step.

Calistoga Press' The Divorce Survival Guide is a fairly comprehensive guide to assist one through this painful process. The book covers topics such as whether or not you will need actual legal counsel or just legal advice, the different types of divorce and how to figure out where your situation may fall in that spectrum, and includes advice on how to break the news to your children. It also has information to help you understand how well your children may, or may not, be handling the news. Divorce is more than just ending a relationship between two people, and this guide helps to make you aware of all the details. This book will help to insure nothing is overlooked. This guide also tackles the large issues, such as child custody. The author explains the custody process, including the different types of custody. Additionally, there is a section on child support and the ramifications of that agreement. The final section focuses on helping you with your emotional and mental well being. With tips on stress, relationships, and moving on, the final three chapters are arguably the most important in accomplishing what the title suggests, successfully living life after the divorce.
