By the time I got a few doggie medical issues taken care of and felt was at the point where I knew what would need to be worked on a few more weeks have passed and I am at my wits end. You see, neither dog after leaving an unideal shelter situation (by this I mean a very poorly ran shelter compared to a good shelter environment, obviously none of them are an ideal situation for a dog) were exhibiting the same personalities I had experienced when meeting them.
During this time I kinda just looked up and read the chapters dealing with specific behavioral/training/etc issues that I was having and was disappointed in the book, which had been recommended by a behaviorist we hadn't yet seen. You see, I felt that the book was a contradictory mess of being too specific about scenarios while entirely vague at the same time. I was convinced that this book could not help me, because it did not align with my specific scenario and wasn't general enough in the advise for me to successfully implement some variety of the suggestions.Read more ›
Mr. Rogerson shares his philosophy of dogs and training in this book. It was not written to be a comprehensive training book. That being said he provides guidance and knowledge on everything from raising and training a puppy, how to chose a dog, and guidance on working with serious behavior problems.
After reading this book you will understand why John Rogerson is one of the most sought after speakers in the world today.
This is an interesting read for pet dog owner and trainer alike. His wife's illustrations of the emotional human faces are charming! The tone of the book is light, not academic. In fact he prides himself in using shorter words than most canine behaviorists! Most of us struggle with the plight of dogs left behind and at shelters and are sympathetic with the burden taken on by rescue groups. This little book needs to be on every rescue groups resource list. At the price Amazon is selling them, you could easily donate a copy to your favorite rescue group...Know a breeder? Give them a copy!
First though, buy your own copy and enjoy!
Every dog lover, trainer, professional must read this book.
John Rogerson has a remarkable understanding on dog behavior and human approach towards addressing them, and this book gives a very good insight in simple words on how your dog is and how we need to bring changes in our self so that we can have an excellent bound with our dogs.
Doesn't matter if your dog has any problem or not, or if he is well trained or needs training, this book is an excellent knowledge base for us to learn the key aspects of our companion.
The illustrations in this books are very expressive and clear.
Learn the art of communication and resolve your difficulties, with simple logic, fun, ease and happiness.
