Book Description

This is a newly expanded, revised and edited version of this short thriller.

It all started with a bad decision. Meeting someone from a social networking site is risky. Shari took a chance on Jill McCain. Jill and her fiancé’, Ivan were an odd pair. Nevertheless, they seemed to be good people. Ivan was a flamboyant gypsy and Jill was a retired talent agent who specialized in female mud wrestlers. Chicago was a real melting pot. When Shari’s cousin, Tara came to visit, from Ireland, they had a barbeque in her honor. Then they invited the cousins to join them at their luxurious villa in Spain. Who could resist? The cousins realized that the couple was eccentric, but they were harmless…or were they? Ivan was flirtatious and his signature greeting of wet kisses to the hand was a bit unnerving, but… Jill was moody and rough around the edges, but…They tried to ignore the red flags until it was too late. The strange couple had lured them into an evil trap. Who could have imagined the horror their hosts had in store for the lovely cousins?

5.0 out of 5 stars Like an Episode of Twilight Zone! April 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
One of my favorite television programs of all time was the original "Twilight Zone." I date myself but modern television viewers should catch the classic on "marathon" days to understand what you missed. While reading Kathleen Patel's short story I almost heard Rod Serling's voice say, "When two beautiful young girls are offered a luxury vacation, they didn't know that..." Even now I hear the theme song in my head.

I originally read this story a month ago and it was on my list to write a review. When the writer said she hired a professional editor to help revise the manuscript, I asked to read the new copy. The revised story reads much smoother than the original and accentuates an intriguing scenario. The new organization of the piece flows from one scene to the next, the old guy and woman appear more sinister, and I loved the new ending!

If porcelain dolls look creepy and you wonder why collectors pay high prices to buy them, this story will make you shudder. Collectors might have an agenda you didn't know about. I can't get the theme song of "Twilight Zone" out of my head but I just want to say, "Good job, Kathleen!"

4.0 out of 5 stars An Author dedicated to her craft March 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was allowed to read the edited and expanded version of The Dolls and I was impressed. Patel has shown that she is dedicated to her craft and wants to only become a better writer. I am happy to say that she has improve a hundredfold. I am very impressed to see she had her story edited and expanded to make a more detailed story. The ending is far more satisfying than the previous version. I can now recommend this to lover's of horror and paranormal stories. This is a great short.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short and scary May 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
So Kathleen Patel did a pretty good job of scaring the crude out of me. My heart was pounding the whole time from when they first met Jill and Ivan until the very end. I am glad it was short only took me about 45 minutes to read, but i was on edge the whole time. I even had nightmares. It was a good short story - but i have to admit i did delete it after reading it because i was so afraid of those crazy dolls and their creators.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting thriller March 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A new exciting thriller that will leave you thinking about it for a long time after you are finished reading it. A lesson in using caution in who you choose to trust and- if it seems too good to be true- well, you know the rest. The lovely young cousins embark on a vacation, planning to stay with hosts that they barely know. Then they realize that what they perceived, as quirks are something more ominous. I will be watching this new author.

5.0 out of 5 stars When you're in the mood for something scary... March 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Sometimes you are in the mood for something scary. This one fits the bill. The story of the two beautiful cousins befriending a very strange older couple seems innocent at first. The invitation to the villa in Spain was a dream come true. But all the red flags keep adding up. Something is wrong- very wrong. Something so creepy it will trouble you for a while.
