Editorial Reviews

Review

"Out of all the books I've reviewed this year, this has to be one of my favorites. The world Bernstein creates is (in my opinion), more magical than The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe."
 - Live to Read

"A witty and original adventure that fans of Narnia and Harry Potter will immediately devour. Lures you in from the first sentence and you won't be able to stop reading - it's original as it is entertaining and funny." - City of Books

"The Door in the Sky is a fantasy extraordinaire." - The Examiner.com

"Rarely have readers of fantasy had so much fun! This delightful tale carves out fresh territory in the genre. Bernstein's storytelling has a wry wit that permeates each chapter.  Her descriptive powers paint memorable pictures, but her forte is dialog, sprinkling the book with humor. She is a superb new writing talent."
- Lighthouse Point Magazine

I loved this book from its opening fascinating prologue. I was swept into this mesmerizing world...oh, did I mention that it is funny? I definitely need to mention that it is funny! -Books, Thoughts, and a few Adventures.

More About the Author

Sandy Klein Bernstein loves magic and castles and chocolate and dragons (but not chocolate-covered dragons as they give her indigestion). Ms. Klein Bernstein holds a Master's degree in Special Education which she should really put down since holding it makes it extremely difficult to type. She lives with her two children, the real Allie and Ricky, and hopes if they are ever whisked away to an enchanted kingdom that they remember to brush their teeth. Ms. Klein Bernstein is currently working on the sequel to "The Door in the Sky" called, "The Knights of D'atura." It is a delightful book which you should definitely buy when it becomes available.

This book is laugh out loud funny, and Sandy Bernstein has a great knack for taking the fantasy characters we all know and love and giving them hilarious twists.

Just by reading the prologue to Door In The Sky you will become so engrossed and want to read more, thus begins this "hard to put down" book.

I find myself having a hard time deciding on what to say about the depth of feeling and the profound scope and meaning in this book. Sandy Bernstien's sentences may be rather simple but her notions of good, evil, love, and devotion are taken to a cosmic level (literally). This isn't mere sci-fi or fantasy; it's gorgeous, breathtaking, escapists adventure. While the theme of this book in its simplicity aims at a younger crowd there are plenty of weighty, inspiring themes for adults to savor. My simple review can't really do it justice, but trust me when I say... if you have young people in your life that say they hate reading, give them this and I promise you'll be glad you did.

I read The Door In The Sky last week and loved it. It is a fantasy that both YA and adults can enjoy. The characters will appeal to all ages. The young brother and sister in this story are taken to another kingdom through a door in the sky and there they are befriended by a young star and his uncle. There is good and evil, right and wrong, and so much humor in this book. The relationship between the brother and his sister shows how deep their family values and true feelings are and that is something that all children need to learn about. I am anxiously waiting for the sequel to this book and will recommend it
to customers and have ordered it for my bookstore.

Sandy has put together quite the book! The world she has created in The Door in the Sky wraps around you and will have you lost in a magical world for hours and hours! Twink is endearing, and I love the fun, magical details intertwined to each chapter.

Give this one a shot - you won't regret it!

I am SO glad I picked up this book to read - it's hilarious, so magically written and quite entertaining. "Twink" a young child star with a big personality is my favorite character - too adorable. The descriptions throughout the book really bring you to this fascinating world. I know it says ages 9+ - and pay attention to that plus sign because I'm 26 and obsessed with the book now! Refreshing and fun for all ages!

This book, back when it was still a manuscript, made it across the country from teacher's classroom to teacher's classroom in a three-ring binder. When I heard about this book and that it was about to be published, I had to read it! It's brighter, sunnier, but just as magical as the beginning of The Harry Potter series.

Feel good as a teacher, librarian or parent reading this to a child or handing it to a child to read and become lost. This is the kind of book that made me fall in love with reading in 6th and 7th grade. Young readers will remember this book for a lifetime and say, "I remember when I fell in love with books."

Over the years, I've become something of a pro at judging a book by its cover - and its blurb. I was in stitches after reading the synopsis (and the author bio), and The Door in the Sky itself did not disappoint. This book is laugh out loud funny, and Sandy Bernstein has a great knack for taking the fantasy characters we all know and love and giving them hilarious twists. I got several looks whenever I read this book in public places because it is literally laugh out loud funny. No problem as I was too busy enjoying myself. :) I know what I am getting EVERYONE in my family for Christmas.

To all the book lovers out there: you know that great feeling you get when you begin reading a new book, and you know immediately that something special is happening? That is exactly the way I felt when I began reading Sandy Klein Bernstein's the Door in the Sky.

As soon as I began reading, I was completely hooked. From the very outset, this book joins the ranks of fabulous novels for young readers; it is funny, exciting, charming, creative, and engaging. But for all you adult book lovers out there: don't write this off as being just a novel for young adults, anybody who enjoys delightfully humorous fantasy novels will adore this book!

You will love the adventures of Ricky, Allie, Shimmer, Twink, and the cast of wonderful characters they meet along the way! An absolutely fantastic read!

I just finished reading "The Door in the Sky" and what a fun, enchanting journey it was. The author excels in her imagination, creativity and holding ones' interest until the final page. The more I read, the faster I turned the pages. I loved the ending, which I did not see coming.

This book appeals to all ages and because the prose is so descriptive, I can just imagine how it would play on the silver screen. I can't wait for Ms. Bernstein's sequel.

"The Door in the Sky" would make a delightful stocking stuffer this Christmas.
