"Popular crowd" worship
on July 14, 2013
Someone gave my daughter book one in this series when she was 7, but I took the book away when I saw how the main character worships the popular girls, focuses on material items like cell phones and expensive clothes, fixates on her supposedly unattractive features, and disrespects her parents. I hate the content! Meanwhile, my daughter wants to absorb every word like it's a how-to guide for popularity.
So she was begging to read the book. "When you're a little older," I'd said. "When?" "When you turn nine."
Thought she'd forget about it. Ha! Two years later, she's reminding me of my promise. I bought the book set for her 9th bday because set is a good value (much cheaper than buying one at a time). It arrived with the box damaged, but the books were not warped & we decided it wasn't a big enough deal to warrant any complaint. I still hate the content, but child loves them & has already read 3 in the 2 weeks we've had the set. They certainly provide fodder for discussions on character development...
